I completed my first DIY 2001 360 oil change over the weekend. First thanks to all the FChat folks for providing the details on this DIY project. There were so many great threads on this topic. I wanted to make sure i followed up with my findings as it relates to Royal Purple Synthetic Oil. I used RP 5-40 and i must say there is a noticeable difference. The car starts better idles a little higher at start-up and is smoother and quieter.
On the road the engine feels more responsive and the RPM's increase much quicker especially during fast acceleration.I'm going to monitor the car a little more closely over the next few weeks but "wow" very impressed so far.

The oil in the car prior was Shell 5-40 Helix and had about 1,100 Miles on it and about 15 months since its last oil change

Keep us informed as to how it goes. I'm considering switching from the Shell Helix to Royal Purple myself.

I have found several Threads on DIY oil changes. Some seem to have points that contradict each other. Can you please share with me which one you followed? Thanks!

Since it had only been a little over a year and 1,500 miles i did not do the multiple step process oil change that you see in some of the threads. I basically drained the oil via the two drain plugs, new filter, changed out my faulty oil sending unit, and added 8qts back started the car let it warm up and added another 1.5qts until the oil showed up just a little below the first mark on the dipstick. I may need to add a little more but will do that when i take her out on a drive.
