Has anyone attempted their own oil change in a 296? Haven't found any videos or information on this.
I'm sure you know but maintenance is free for the first 7 years, some dealers will even pick up/drop off for you...
Why would you attempt this when it’s free?! Even if a dealer is a few hours away I wouldn’t mess around and would want to make sure Ferrari takes care of all service (while it’s covered).
"WHY would you change your own oil?" Because I own the car....when a new engine is built some sealant breaks free, edges of metal can chip, and all of this passes through the system....I am not comfortable waiting for Ferrari to deem my car "ready" for an oil change. I want to change the oil and filter at my intervals.
Have you ever heard of the cold test that all the ferrari engine did ? it is essentially a diagnostic test on a running engine, in the absence of fuel: ,the engine is turned on by connecting an electric motor to the crankshaft....... this is more then enough to avoid the problems that you have mentioned
Then there is the couple of hours of dyno time each engine gets before being installed. When pulled from the dyno to go to the production area the oil got changed.
Why? Let the dealership do it and maintenance is free for 7 yrs / you paid for it already. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
No way that each engine undergoes one hour on the dyno--too time consuming even for the limited production of Ferrari.
After talking to the dealer, the 7 year maintenance that is included doesn’t necessarily include an oil change every visit . It is mileage dependent and typically for the average owner, they change the oil every 20 months if you drive typical Ferrari miles.
In the UK they used to change the oil every annual service regardless of mileage then they changed the program to as and when needed as you were told.
If you want to change the oil say, at 1,000 mile break-in, or once a year, will the dealer honor the service or tell you to come back when you have 10,000 miles? If the latter, that is not good.
Ferrari DOES NOT change the engine oil at the first service. Cheapskates!! My dealer wants over $1000 to change the oil at the first service!
No it started Feb 2019. I have a 2018 488 GTB and oil change every year by Ferrari. Post Feb 2019 they have the added diagnostics on the cars. This turn around IMO is BS. Turbo engines without regular oil changes is ridiculous , especially since the majority of people don't follow proper turbo car i.e. warm up before going and cooling down before turning off.
Cars survive very well with an oil change every 10,000 km , that is with a mass produced ICE that will no doubt not be nearly as well put together as the hand built Ferrari or for that matter an AMG ICE. The days have long gone for 1000 mile ( 1600 km) oil change. You just do not need it . The important thing is the diagnostics being completed to ensure the ICE is running well SAs is the battery.
You miss the point. Ferrari has removed it because of cost. If you a maths person you will find the cost to be in the MILLIONS. Fact car here always tracked a Pista well over 10,000 kms , Ferrari said no oil change. We are talking Turbos. End of the day its up to you however after spending $600,000 do you really think I would give a rats arse about changing the oil ? Better not drive the Ferrari as it drinks petrol ?
Just brought home a Honda Rancher quad....they want the oil changed at 20 hours...using regular oil...not synthetic...they say then you can change to syn after the break in period....hmmm
Have you heard of warranty? It will cover most new purchasers for the time of ownership , once sold , who cares
This isn’t an accurate statement. Ferrari will change the oil if the mileage meets the mileage threshold. It’s mileage that drives the requirement. Not the fact that it’s the first service.
