Keith says, " I am sure that it will be the definitive GTO book. James is a very thorough researcher, and together we have righted some wrongs and found new information etc. Jess and I didn’t have the luxury of the internet back then! Nathan
Yes, it's amazing the amount of hard work and time that was required to research a car (or anything) pre internet days. You'd expect any comprehensive new book to contain new information, given that research is actually much easier now with the internet, and what is the point of a new book on the subject otherwise? From the description it does not include the 2 4 litre cars with the 250 GTO body, of which one, 3765LM, effectively became a 250 GTO, being converted by the factory with a 250P engine and 5 speed 250 GTO gearbox. It's a shame that at £450, it's way too expensive.
There’s an error, I believe, in the web site’s mention of the car’s “illustrative (sic) reputation” where surely they intended to say “illustrious reputation.”
Nearly as expensive as some of your books No doubt this new book will be excellent but can there really be so little else to write about?
In case anyone is looking to jump-start his or her car book collection, the Michael T. Lynch car & motorcycle book collection is being sold by his widow Vicki as one lot. See the ad in the right column of this page https://www.velocetoday.com for contact details and link to spreadsheet list of titles. I don't know the asking price and have no affiliation with the seller, although I did converse with Mr. Lynch about his favorite titles a few times before his passing.
Thank you. I’ll definitely take a look at that. Would you happen to know anything about the status of the Chinetti/NART book Michael was working on when he died?
I saw most of his book collection a number of years ago at his home when he lived in Carmel, and it was great then. Of course he added to it since. I just took a very quick look at the list, and it is a hell of a good collection.....I hope it goes to someone who will appreciate it.
Luigi Jr. told me in Amelia 03/20 that a couple chapters are/were missing and not done yet. Marcel Massini
Thank you. I had heard that David Bull and János Wimpffen are assisting with the completion, but I have not seen that confirmed.
I’m helping my sister sell some of her late husband’s books. Does anyone have an idea of the value of these? ABE has two copies of Drive Time listed at ~$1200 but I don’t see how that’s realistic, and I can’t find any information about the Ferrari watch book. Thank you. For those with an interest in the Miura, Simon Kidston has just released his Magnum Opus on the subject. Ordered my copy yesterday, almost half of the limited edition of 762 copies are already sold (within two days). I have no commercial interest, I just like the cars. www.miurabook.com
Does anyone have information about the upcoming Porter Press book on the Breadvan? It was mentioned in the last newsletter email I received from them as "in the pipeline." Seeing the mention caused me to pull out my copy of Mr. Sonnery's Rebel Rebel again!
Mr. Sonnery is a member here (Nembo1777) and i'm sure he will give us an update when there's more news. Last time i've spoken with him was at Chantilly where he mentioned there would be an updated version of the Breadvan book.
Thank you, I wasn't aware there would be an updated version. Is Mr. Sonnery now working with Porter Press? It seems PP has significantly expanded its catalog beyond Jaguar titles.
