@GT4Joe, Thanks for the correction, clicking too fast this AM. Indeed, the GT4 didn't move a giant amount in the April report. But was up. Overall, the car has moved 50% in a year. Not a bad up-turn, eh? I do think "high asks" have been ahead of the market. At least in the US. https://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch/Report?vbe=119833
Yes I see your point...but I would assume that in the Hagerty ratings...even a condition 4 car (a driver) is assumed to be "mechanically sound"...and if it isn't then any work needed to get it there would be a deduction from the condition 4 price. So "needs an engine rebuild" or even "needs timing belt+ service now" would be a major deduction..."just had an engine rebuild or a timing belt+ service" would add to the price. So how is "mechanically sound" determined...get a PPI, I suppose, with compression check etc. etc. would be it, (of look over the service history as available too). But even so, a cam bearing or the air conditioning compressor etc. etc. could fail any time too (after all it's a 30+ year old car)...so that's why Hagerty rates/mentions more about visible items...like the paint and interior...while I would think they would need to assume "mechanically sound" in their ratings....
I guess I just don't trust the seller or an auction company to tell me how good (or bad) a car is. These cars are expensive to maintain correctly and yes a PPI is a must. But it has to be done by someone who knows these cars. Someone who's not fooled by shiny paint. I'd also want to see the car in person. Nothing beats seeing a car for yourself.
The Hagerty Values or NADA values do NOT reflect the market right now. I don't mean the market for 'drivers"- those cars have doubled int he past year or so- We all saw the $22-$25K cars with needs, and now they are $35K-$45K. The seriously great cars- the low, perfect paint, perfect interior, detailed engine showpieces are moving close to or OVER $100K- according to the car and the color combo. At least three dealers of vintage Ferraris who laughed at my cars in the past- (Gt4? 355? 412? Garbage!) now have made very strong offers to buy my car, which is not for sale and never has been. Simply- they have customers who figured it was time to add one to the collection before prices got too far out of hand.
I thought this one sold a few times the back on eBay it was? Hope so this time! Thought it was on my watch list but was not this time so did not see final bid?
Previous "winners" fell through. This last time the auction was ended early as a serious offer was accepted. It's gone!
Here is a 1975 for sale (10708), no affiliation. looks pretty nice. 1975 Ferrari 308 GT4 Coupe Phoenix, Arizona | Elite Motor Group
Did I start all this? That car is not worth any more that 75K Did anyone read the last FORZA Ken Lingenfelter big time Ferrari collector with 288 GTO, F40, Enzo, La Ferrari says he's on the march for a GT4! his words. I tried to get in touch with him but I think Al may've sold both his other cars. His loss as he is a big time collector.......
that is the price I was quoted. sounds ambitious but then again 2 years ago who would have paid $50k.
the way things are going you may be able to double your money on that new car before you even take delivery!
I bought my 308 from Chad at EMG. Very smooth transaction. Down to earth dude with no bs. Price was on-point at the time, but the market has moved a lot so...
Friends and GT4 Bretheren! Thats what Al said but I not good with money so I will keep it. Just picked out the leather! HAA Back to the black car the fact it has the books and most of the tools even if it seems no one knows which pouch they go in, has the correct nuts on the airbox and aside from the interior looks pretty clean to me, has the original wheel & wheels and that speaks volumes for me..... that it was a car that was loved not just owned. I think 95 is way too much but what do I know I guess it will all come down to who buys it. Did anyone ever find out who bought Rocks car and is he coming here to play? How come people can't put the tools in right like this! Rob Image Unavailable, Please Login
