I was at this race although the Brownie Instamatic I had with me didn't cut it. Found this on the web and it brought back memories, at least the ones I can remember like the 917s twitchy at the end of the Hangar Straight; a 917 engine sitting on the floor at the back of the pits; rooting for a Lotus Europa - the Schmidt's Beer Special - since we drove down from Pennsylvania; how low the 512s were, only up to our waists; and the glorious weather. I still have the poster, the program and the pit pass button. Wish I had a half decent camera with me. Image Unavailable, Please Login

The mods should get the proper approvals/permissions and publish the photos. What a book it would make.

That image was made by Louis Galanos, though I doubt he Photoshopped the background like that
as those Connies must have had a 4' wing span.

I'd be happy to set up a meet and greet.

    You noticed that too?

What an era - great cars, and still great aircraft, although obsolete by then. Damned jets.

The cargo jets they have lined up out there now are strictly for show. Notice that none of the 727s have
engines on them. They're disused cargo craft from Amerijet, the Ft. Lauderdale based air cargo service
evidently brought in by NASCAR to add to the show. (Crickets)...

Some interesting aerial images supplied to me by Michael Keyser made while filming "The Speed Merchants"
in 1972 showing the amount of heavy aircraft which was on the ground at Sebring back in those days
for my article "Sebring: Evolution of a Tradition" (2013).
