that's awesome. cruise through Chesapeake Bay while you're at it :)

those are actually better than stats for high performance cars (90% of which never go on track and only about 30% get driven hard at all)

We're running the snot out of the boat this season. The low fuel prices help. I'm having diesel delivered tomorrow for <$2 gallon. Even in the out islands of the Bahamas it's right at $4/g ($3.65/g in Nassau) vs. $6/g over the past couple of summers.

Now all we have to hope for is that the boat doesn't break, the weather is good, we don't get eaten by a shark or run aground. It's kind of like camping only more expensive with the added thrill of catching on fire and drowning.

Cabo is another good brand and Chas is right. 40' is MAX for one guy to run alone.

You'll need someone else if you want to pick up a mooring.

This . 66 Viking Sportfish complete with a gyro too. I've fished on this boat many times it's fast 45 mph if need be and can back down quickly.

"hey!!!! back that 120'er down". I don't know how the heck you fish that thing. it can't go half the places I go.

I went to the Viking VIP show Riviera Beach yesterday. Those guys are so nice. They were doing sea trials all day long and having a blast.

Lol , he's buying a Westport not a sport fish. The largest sport fish I've fished on was a Viking 82 with a 24 beam. Believe it or not it was fabulous.

having a crew / captain is desirable, especially if one is remote from the boat... boats require constant attention... having a shore crew at a minimum to look after things is desirable... its great to have the boat provisioned when one gets to it and cleaned up when back to the dock... a captain is desirable in that it can be chartered out occasionally to take some of the sting out of ownership... boats are not cheap to maintain, having someone o n the pay roll to look after the boat has a payback in lower yard expenses and the convenience of not DIY... upkeep is more than gathering the empty beer cans and 10 minutes rinsing with a hose... captains are dime a dozen, good chefs are priceless

I hate having a crew although I have a pretty good support staff on land. A crew is one of the main reasons the big boys get out of boating. Someone else steals the crew for $50 more /day. The cook ends up screwing the captain and on and on. It can end up taking a lot of the fun out of it. Chartering is another avenue entirely that has it's own pleasures and perils. The wear and tear on the boat is much higher with charter guests. The crew hassle stories are endless but if you're running anything very large you almost have to deal with it. I ran my boat in rough water today and it took 4 hours to just rinse it off before the full wash happens on Friday.

I'll use a captain to position the boat and that's about it.

I ran into this boat at Baker's Bay in the Bahamas. 81' Merritt. It's owned by George Strait and is called Day Money. Great name. They really do look like museum pieces. Just gobs of perfect wood. I can't imagine what his yearly haul out is but it makes belts on an F car seem like a good deal.

    Nice boat.

There's a reason why they cost what they do.
