Is it a decal then clearcoat or paint?

I used the decals on my first caliper paint and they worked great!

Recently I switched it around and (since I'm doing red with black lettering) put a coat of black paint on the caliper, applied the decal, painted red over it and then removed the decal carefully. Looks much more authentic. Clear coat route above should work OK.

I posted about this in my project thread quite a few moons ago...

Brembo use a paint stencil technique, whereby there is no decal used, this means its smooth to the touch.

All you need to do is get the caliper painted up first, then apply a opposite sticker (stencil) with holes for where you want color to show through, paint, let it dry then remove the sticker, your left with just paint then.

Finally and optionally for harder wearing you can apply a top coat clear lacquer to the entire thing and its as good as it gets....

    OEM.

Indeed, I actually showed the original OEM calipers before refurbishment and after.

The OEM method uses a metal stencil, a bit like those old fashioned ink stamps but using paint - and no they don't clear coat - its just paint on paint hence it can get scratched, at least on the F430 Challenge race calipers.
