It seems to me that since Obama wants the USA to re-establish itself in the international community along with the fact that the F1 World Champion is of African descent that he would interested in having a USGP for all the world to see...he could even show up on Sunday to hand out the 1st place trophy on the podium. We should start an e-mail campaign now...If all of the 100s of thousands of F1 fans in the USA would e-mail their Congressman, Senators and Obama and point out that: 1) F1 is the largest spectator sport in the world; 2) that the current WDC Hamilton is of African descent and; 3) that there is no US Grand Prix... who knows...he may just make it happen. FYI, most other countries utilize public funds to pay the ~$100 million fees to host an F1 event...why not the USA? It should would be a lot cheaper that the current financial bailout and would bring a boost to the economy to boot. Here is the Congress and Obama contact info...so send your e-mail today ... http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/ ... http://answercenter.barackobama.com/cgi-bin/barackobama.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php ...

    Boost to whos' economy ?

If you had a choice to attend any F1 event, where would you go ?

OK, if you lived outside North America, if you could go to any event, where would you go ?

(If you said Indy, I will know you are a liar, or nuts, or both).

Sorry, but right now, I'd vote no, the last thing we need is to GIVE money to ONE guy (Bernie) to have a race at those inflated costs.

Perhaps they should run a race in Nigeria where all tickets and concessions are paid by cashier's checks? :)

I agree but watch the last third or so of the video and you will know that Indy isn't the favourite to host the race any longer. It could become a street race in either Los Angeles, Vegas or New york. I think it would be quite intresting to have it in the centre of one of these cities.

I don't know that they really had any inside line on what's in the works. They mentioned NYC, Indy, LA, Vegas and Detroit. They even noted that their story was fed by internet discussions, so they may be rehashing what's discussed here all the time!

While I agree that Indy is not the best track for F1, any track is better than no USGP at all. IMHO Vegas would be the best venue with its hotels and other infrastructure...especially the casinos. Obama may want to have it in Chicago or even Washington, DC...who knows. To succeed, the USGP needs to be a national event like in other parts of the world...the only way to make that happen is to get the US government involved. I have already e-mailed Obama as well as both my Senators and my Representative.

    Indiana's and the US.

The USGP actually did have indeed a huge following of European and South American fans.

It might be the first time, but I do agree with parkerfe on this.

Yes, Indy is a Mickey Mouse GP, but that's better than no GP in the US/Canada. I'm sure the import automakers feel the same way.

Been to Indianapolis 3 times to watch the F1 GP, I gotta say the US needs to upgrade and do something about their host city for the F1 GP. When I watch F1 races around the world I feel like the US is a 3rd world country...look at the Singapore GP, Monaco, Germany, Japan? Their tracks look soooooo modern, clean, beautiful...The other countries have track innovations that should have been done by the US first...like a GP at night. It's a shame the US wasn't the first to host a F1 GP at night! Now when you're getting to Indianapolis it doesn't feel like you're near a city where's hosting a F1 GP so simple, no F1 signs, not colorful, it's a great track but my point is that compared to the other cities Indy is NOT on the same level.

Lake Shore Drive is lined with parks with room for viewing stands and has plenty of curves and straightaways. Great views of Lake Michigan and the Loop skyline. Lots of hotels and sights to see. It may not be Monaco, but with BHO in the White House, Chicago will be cool again. Plenty of parking, too, since the office buildings will be empty on a Sunday.

    DETROIT. NEED the MONEY.

The Race-course from GM World HQ's, to Chrysler World HQ's, to Ford's World HQ's, in Dearborn. They could run the "gauntlet," on Michigan Ave., from GM to Ford.

    Ciao...Paulo :D

I think vegas would be pretty neat. Plenty of EYE for the rest of the world. The city could handle it. Weather is typically very dry. If they didn't do a street course maybe Las Vegas motor speedway which is a great venue... however i have fears of the USGP problem. and its only a 4 hour drive for me :) Although... we did have a GP here in Phoenix in the 80s... reportedly it was awful, and we can't host it here again because the sound and vibration caused rapid deterioration of our buildings...

You are technically correct. But, Obama is so keen on reintroducing the USA back to the world community as a peace loving nation, he may just take this task on. The only way we can find out is to have as many F1 fans as we can get to e-mail Obama, both of your Senators and your Representative and see what happens. Stranger things have happened in US politics. So send your 4 e-mails today..it will take you less than 10 minutes. I sure wish someone on Speed would get on board such a campaign so more of the F1 fans of the USA could get involved.

beg pardon sir, but the only way to make the usgp a national event is to eliminate nascar, which IS a national event!

Now here's someone talking sense! Chicago would make a great backdrop, and I wish the city would put its gazillions from the Olympic bid into a GP effort. I'd take an annual race over a 1-time Olympic Games all day long. We wouldn't be stuck with scores of shoddily slapped-together buildings and a pile of debt. And the race budget would allow for annual upkeep of Lake Shore Drive, which takes a beating every winter.

I know my US Congressman personally and his response would be "Formula What".

Have you considered Bernie's buddy Max's past? I bet he's a real Obama fan. Probably has thoughts of tying young Lewis up. Or maybe some wacks from young Lewis the prison guard.

Seriously the only players are Tony George and Chris Pook and they do not get along.

F1 damaged the buildings in Phoenix? Never heard that one.

Is'nt Parker the guy who tried to get us in on the ground floor of an MLM with Madonna and Derrick Jeter? Not exactly a snow to the eskimos guy.

To the street course advocates. You do know that when you watch on TV that the camera is on the track and that when you go to the race they make you sit in the stands. When I get back to my other computer I can give you a street course/super max prison comparison.

What the heck happened to Ron? Did he run off with that women? Hope he's OK.
