Tired of getting pulled over for excessive tint on my daily rides, makes me feel like a criminal..

How do I get the better / more impressive little badges, that say I am in favor of not getting a Ticket...

Those donation cards and windshield stickers do not always work...

Some things to keep in mind are that:
    1. not all towns are members of the PBA
    2. Some towns are more accepting of tint then others
    3. the type of car (aka civic's mostly)
    4. % of the tint
    5. the cop's opinion of tints on cars

How about getting rid of the tint and replace it with the approved version.

    Try this:
    Tinted Vehicle Windows

    Question
What are the laws in NYS about tinted vehicle windows?

    Answer
Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window. This law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides. The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle.

If the vehicle is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible, the rear side windows must also allow at least seventy percent of light from the outside to pass through the window.

It is illegal to sell, offer for sale, or install glass that does not comply with this law. It is illegal to operate a vehicle with glass that does not comply with this law.

If a medical condition requires a person to have tinted vehicle windows, they can request an exemption from the law. Request form MV-80W from a DMV Office or Call Center.

The text of this law is attached below under "File Attachments".

Exactly...they have been cracking down lately and I was getting stopped at the Lincoln Tunnel on consecutive mornings due to tint and no front plate.

Treated the cop like a gentleman, and he told me to have a good day.

I now lower the windows and drive 3 inches off the bumper in front of me. :)

I have a medical card that allows me to have my windows tinted. 20% all around, except windshield. It was extremely easy to get, and my tints are 100% legal.

The shield I got from a detective friend (NYPD) a few years ago actually has her badge number on it...Not sure what the new ones look like, but that one looks kinda souvenir-ish.

It's definitely been very helpful on many occasions, except when getting pulled over with a group of cars - and everyone has a shield in their wallet - "If I get a call from one of your buddies on the job, then I'm going to tell the judge you were racing the other cars..."

Wow, you'd think you guys would take advice from, you know, an actual cop who is approaching almost 20 years and is a Detective with a city-wide task force. But then again, what could he possibly know :)
