You are incorrect based on reading the FACTORY service manual, my 11 yrs of NSX ownership, & well over 14 yrs on NSX Prime. Please READ the factory manual that you claim to have knowledge of & note there is no step for "remove the engine" for timing belt replacement.

You can do it that way if you want, but there is no need. The designers & engineers at Honda were very clever to make difficult jobs workable. Not easy, but workable. Hence the step to tilt the engine by jacking it slightly.

    Hocakes,

I know multiple factory-trained NSX technicians who simply will not do it with the tilt method, and I trust their experience-based judgment. YMMV. As far as pricing, I have personally seen an official Acura dealer quote over $5,000 for a timing belt replacement. Not every buyer can be expected to seek out a pro specialist who works for rock-bottom prices.

Please do not derail this thread any further, this isn't the NSX timing belt discussion thread. Thanks.

    Good write up Sterling!

Took mine out for the first time yesterday and was really amazed with it. Not quite a ferrari but a much better driving experience than it's other competition. It's slow but really enjoyable.

Ben is a good guy, he inspected one of my NSXs for me. I wish his shop wasn't 2,600 miles away!

Ben has a solid reputation and getting a NSX that has been worked on by him or a small handful of other techs is one of those things that increases its value. As much of a "Honda" as the NSX is, there are a lot of people who don't know their way around that car and can do things really poorly. Much like buying a Ferrari, it isn't just about the maintenance history it is about WHO is behind the maintenance history and I can vouch for a large number of NSX owners who have put their trust in Ben's years of experience with the NSX.

I was able to obtain a Japanese 1997 NSX brochure booklet (showing NSX, NSX Type-S, NSX Type-S Zero, etc.) & 2002 NSX Type-R brochure. There's a lot of interesting info in these, I'll try to share when I have time. The options list for Japanese market NSXs was pretty staggering (yes, you could have your Type-R in lime green).

heh - thanks. The guys at the Acura dealership are always happy to let me pop my car in there. Leads to lots of amusing comments as average people tend to have no idea what it is and get puzzled when they see the Acura badge on the front.

The custom order system in Japan was pretty sweet and that is one thing that Ted Klauss and the U.S. Acura team is trying to open up to be worldwide with the new NSX. Any car with non-standard items would get a neat custom built designation - I took a photo of one of them while in Japan and photoshopped it above the standard NSX door sill so you can see what I mean.

Lime green was available for base models as well and not just the type-R. The other unusual color is a dark shade of red. The type-R was very rarely built in anything other than white. The notable exception is Motoharu Kurosawa's (Gan-San) who had his Type-R painted red. I think that the red properly matches his personality :)

You are correct. I was there last year for the 25th Anniversary, but won't be in attendance this year or probably for a few. Was a great experience though and worth every penny.

I knew the lime green was an option, but I had no idea it was available on the 02+ NSX-R. Pretty wild. My brochure indicates that 14 colors were available on 02+ NSX-R (assuming they didn't add more colors or subtract some during the run), 5 of them special colors. The normal ones are the two whites, red, dark blue, yellow, two blacks, and two silvers. The special ones are a medium blue, dark red (you mentioned), orange, lime green, and one more white (possibly the pearl white). Seats could be black or red, carpeting was always red, dash and doors were always black.

Other things that surprised me: It appears that the NSX-R could be ordered with the standard NSX airbag steering wheel & passenger airbag in place if desired. The NSX-R GT air scoop is also shown as an "equipment" option.

I had never seen the "custom" NSX sill plate, that's awesome!

Prime has a pretty good page on the various colors: Colors - NSX-Wiki

The white pearl is really pretty on the car. I was able to get a shot of the two whites side by side and that does a good job of hitting the differences.

Other custom options available that I know of were faux wood inserts, contrast stitching, a darker tan interior and of course the navigation system. I ran across a car that had some of those installed which is why I know they exist ;)

Here is a shot of the man and the machine (and a friend of mine).

It looks great with the white wheels.

Also great to see the NSX in general gaining stature in the sports car community with some fantastic sales results recently!

As long as I am posting photos, this one may be entertaining, a nice side by side of my car next to a 355. My car is at stock height and to my untrained eye it looks like the 355 is as well.

You can see here that the NSX actually has a very low roof, but what makes the roof look higher than other supercars is the low cowl height (super low hood, basically). This contributes to the amazing glasshouse view out of the front of the car, where you can visually see the road starting just a few feet in front of the bumper (you can see how much less glass area the 355 has in its windshield). This is the functional component of the "F-16" fighter jet canopy effect the designers were going for.
