TAG Motorsports So things have progressed quite nicely with our TAG Motorsports California T. We have installed the Novitec N-Tronic ECU Upgrade and I must say, it really made a night and day difference on the car. The power delivery is smooth, it doesn't surge or feel overly powerful but its linear. The throttle response (even with this being turbo'd) seems improved. When you roll into the throttle, it pins you into your chair a lot harder than our old 458 so the 645hp is really something thats worth it! For anyone that wants some actual real world experience, I encourage you to come by and take our car for a spin, or even give us a call. these N-Tronic ECU's are boxed and can be shipped to you for your local dealer (or us) to install! Sending you a PM. So it is actually an additional piggyback ECU system that basically can be totally reversible. All we need is your VIN and we program the N-Tronic units and ship them to you. Also a detailed instruction video is included as well!
The factory warranty and the extended warranties are definitely voided with the Novice Rosso upgrade which means for the vast majority of owners an unnecessary risk. For anyone which is not racing and decides to embark in such an adventure, which will push the engine, gearbox and mechanical parts to the limits, it is completely advisable to constitute a wealthy fund should anything happen. In such case the bill can be astronomical.
IMO, car manufacturers usually de-tune their engines in order to leave room for "next year's model and then the one after that as well ...etc" or to avoid watering down the advantage of a more pricey, more performance-minded model (like the 488 in this case). The local Ferrari dealer here in Ontario, CANADA is actually the exclusive agent for Novitec Rosso. Novitec does not allow any other local tuner to sell their products so you can infer Ferrari and Novitec have some sort of healthy respect for each other, business-wise.
To be honest - we do these things for the local dealerships - so it really all comes down to your relationship with your store. If you have a good relationship, then they can certainly not be total d*ck's and slap you with a bill. Being that the software is removable and the vehicle can be put back to 100% stock, typically if the problem still exists after doing so, then the store knows that the tune is what is causing the problem. I have logged countess hours in my personal Cali T with the N-Tronic unit and I have it going into our new shop 488 as well (more on that soon) and have yet to have an issue. Again - it all comes down to your relationship with your dealership. If anyone has any concerns, I urge you to call me directly and I would be more than happy to help! 877-523-6747 x198
Hey 4th gear, I called Ferrari of Ontario and they told me they do not and never have installed Novitec ECU on Calli T - it voids warranty. I sure would like to hear from someone though who has had experience with it on the T- not someone selling them.
James, in my earlier message, I indicated FoO is the sole source for Novitec Rosso in Ontario, but you must understand that regardless of that fact, Ferrari always voids the warranty of Fcars that have ECU modifications from 3rd parties, including Novitec. If that were not true then Ferrari, the factory, would be providing the Novitec upgrade, not just one or some of their dealers. If Ferrari itself acted as a Novitec agent then Fcar owners all over the world would be getting Novitec ECU upgrades on their Fcars from Ferrari dealers. Unfortunately Ferrari does not offer any ECU upgrades of their own, except when they release new models of their cars. Novitec upgrades from dealers are 3rd Party upgrades from dealers, not OE upgrades from Ferrari. I only pointed out FoO and Novitec would have to have a healthy respect for each other's products (and services) for FoO to be a sole agent for Novitec in Ontario. I did not say FoO would warranty Fcars that have Novitec ECU upgrades. I also did not say they have installed any ECU upgrades for the CaliT. If you install a non-factory ECU upgrade on your Fcar you must be comfortable with voiding the factory warranty for that car. Preferably you should only do that after the warranty expires. Getting a Novitec ECU upgrade from an Fcar dealer who is the sole agent for Novitec simply means the dealer installer would know how to safely work on your Fcar and implies the dealer is comfortable with the Novitec product because he would not want to p1$$ off future Fcar customers by ruining his Fcar with a bad product. That's all!
Dear 4th Gear,I know that Ferrari will void the warranty. What I Was sharing w you is I called the service manager at Ferrari of Ontario and he said they are NOT Novitec distributors nor have they ever installed a Novitec upgrade- that's all I know. Thanks
Was it David you spoke to or was it someone else? Did you speak to him yesterday? Being an agent is not the same as being a distributor. An agent simply handles business or products for Novitec but a Novitec distributor would stock and channel Novitec products to retailers. FoO doesn't stock Novitec products. As for installing Novitec products I actually have multiple quotations from FoO for various Novitec upgrades for my Cali30. I also spoke and exchanged emails with Novitec North America reps who told me directly FoO is the only source for Novitec upgrades in Ontario. Another top tuner in Toronto also contacted Novitec to try get Novitec Rosso upgrades for me and was told they're only available through FoO. FoO is a big and influential Fcar dealer and there are many tifosi in the Toronto area. David Webb is the service manager and I got an automatic email reply from him a few days ago saying he's away, returning April 30.
Sorry I don't remember his name. I asked to talk to service manager when I called in on the 11th. Whoever I talked to didn't say anything against Novitec at all but simply said they don't handle the Novitec ECU upgrade and wouldn't install one as an authorized Ferarri dealer. BTW do you really think they would make something available to their customers that everyone knows would void the warranty?
You may have spoken to the wrong person. Here is NOVITEC's reply to my original inquiry about FoO. If anyone is interested they can always contact Albert at Novitec NA LLC:At 11:07 AM -0800 12/10/15, ALBERT COOK wrote: Thank you for your response. TAG Motorsports We have at this point done about 15 California T's and a handful 488's to date with the N-Tronic program, and I must say we are really pleased with the results. The cars really have been preforming flawlessly. After logging quite a few miles in an N-Tronic Powered Cali T, my favorite part of the car really is the fact that the tune and power doesn't come on any differently than the factory car's powerband which is really nice. It maintains the drivability on the car which is a really nice feature! We have the units in stock, and each car is programmed individually based on your vehicle's VIN (as you can see us programing another 488 N-Tronic Unit) Give us a call or shoot me a message for more information. We also have them directly on our site at TAG Motorsports - Performance Auto Parts Vista, CA. Image Unavailable, Please Login
