I loved Dark Forces!

for me it began with F1 World GP on the N64. I had a steering wheel as well and did many, many laps on that game! It was surprisingly good actually, physics where ok, but the damage model was VERY good imo.

Also Goldeneye.

Then I got a playstation with driver 2, always fun to jump the bridges. I got my second wheel for the ps and with that I purchased an F1 game (badical, don't even remember the name, lol) and of course the Gran turismo series and TOCA.

Soon after a PS2 followed with a newer, better wheel, gran turismo 3 and the followup of TOCA. Killed a lot of time on GT3 with my home made 'cockpit' (2 massive speakers, a piece of wood, and sitting on the floor against my door) racing the F1 car, wasn't that far of the quickest list of some tracks. GTA3 soon came out which was one of the very best games in existence! I played way to many hours on it.

When I went to high school vice city and GT4 just came out, and as I had a quad as well I did sweet FA for school lol.

Moved to the caribbean, laid of the gaming and basically body boarding all the time I. Moved to the UK and got an Xbox. Nothing exciting. Concept of forza was good, had a wheel which was crap, concentrated on pc gaming.

Downloaded Rfactor and LFS, got battlefield 2 and counterstrike source too....a lot of time killed on those! COD4 was soon released (I had COD2 also, which I found was brilliant but none of my friends played it to much since they where hooked on BF2) and played it a lot. I still suck at it, lol.

X360 nothing exciting, until GTA4 came about! BEST OVERALL GAME EVER!!

Now my x360 is F'cked but buying a ps3 next month for more GTA4 goodness

I know there are plenty that I am missing but these are the ones on the top of my head.

 

I loved these games! I remember that Dark Forces and Doom were one of the first few FPSes I'd ever played.

Let's not forget Dune 2 and C&C as well.

Did anyone here play Kings Quest? I think that was the first computer game I'd ever played.

 

I never really moved beyond the '90s with video games. I still have a pretty extensive '90s collection with everything from Atari Lynx to Sega Dreamcast. My favorite games were Super Mario World, F-Zero, Street Fighter II Turbo, and The Duel: Test Drive 2 (because it had a 959 in it) for SNES, Super Street Fighter II Turbo for PC and 3DO, Alien Vs. Predator and Rayman for Atari Jaguar, Sega Rally Championship for Saturn, Sega Rally 2 (although the arcade version was much better) and Ferrari 355 Challenge for Dreamcast, Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed and Tenchu 2 for Playstation, and I did enjoy Myst for PC (at least the first time through... there was zero replay value for that game).

Oh yeah... Forgot Mario 64, Goldeneye, and Turok for N64.

I wish I still had time to play some of those games.

 

Just want to add to the Goldeye bandwagon. First FPS that really drew me in. Thinking of buying a used 64 just to play it again.

 

Try to get hold of 'Perfect Dark' on N64. It's game made by RARE, and coincidentally, quite rare as well... I got a copy with a booklet for about £40 ($70) 5 years ago. Imagine playing James Bond Goldeneye, but with much more interesting AI. The multi-player alone makes that game worthwhile, you can assign and command AI units on human-led teams, pit human teams against all-AI teams, etc. It's very fun with a bunch of people over for an evening.

I think of my old NES (at my parents' house in Alabama) as truly classic, but over here in the UK my N64 is the 'classic' experience compared to the Wii.

I suspect I'm going to be sighed at too.

Oh yea, I'm with you on the Star Wars games!

I loved Tie-Fighter and Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight - I think I had the most fun flying the Imperial ships or choosing the Dark Side and electrocuting my enemies with Force Lightning.

The other game I loved was the original Need For Speed on the PC, released in the mid-90s. I put a lot of miles on the 512TR in that game.

2.5million copies is rare?

You can get that game on Xbox Arcade, it was release a few months back. It had it's engine graphics updated too.

That was a great game. The 2nd game was great as well, the special edition had Glide support and I think that game is what made me go buy a 3d card! after seeing it on a mates then new Voodoo1 card

 

When I wanted to buy it back then, I couldn't find any N64 cartridges for it anywhere. Nobody stocked it and nobody could order it in, specialist gaming stores told me they were completely unable to predict when they would come across another copy of it. It ended up that eBay was the only place I found one - and had to pay more than the initial release price to get hold of it.

Perhaps the rarity is only for the N64 and only in the UK... not sure. It could also have been rereleased for the N64 after I purchased my copy - I haven't looked into it. I just recall all the trouble I had getting hold of it, so if not 'rare' it was certainly not easily accessible when I wanted to acquire it.

The early games in the Need For Speed series were very good, I even saved up my pocket money for a steering wheel so I could get a more realistic driving experience playing them. It was a great thrill keeping 'just' in front of the law to make it across the finish line on a difficult track. Unfortunately the series turned to modelling cars that were a bit 'ricey' and I rather lost interest in their later releases.

Viper Racing for the pc- Probably my first racing game. I got so involved in that game I actually joined an Online Racing Club.

Age of Empires III- I dominated at this game. I guess thats what happens when your dad talks about the battle tactics of Alexander the Great.

Banjo and Kazooie for Nintendo 64- First game for my first game console. I will always remember the theme music.

Pokemon Snap- Again a game that I can remember the theme music to. I actually wore the game cartridge out twice, thats how much I played it. Recently got it on the Wii and beat it at light speed.

Project Gotham Racing 2- This is the car game that helped fuel my passion for cars. The only game where a 5 minute lap on the Nurburgring is possible.

Forza Motorsport- The best racing sim at the time. Still is a great blast to play. I love the music in the game. I am actually working my way through the game again on my 360 along with Forza 3.

That was the game that made me fall in love with Ferraris. First video game I ever played where the performance of the cars was based on the real world. Having to outrun the cops was a nice touch too.

Defender - most adrenafun
Tempest - epic seesaw battles for top score
Caterpillar - biggest bang for quarter & easiest to smoke everybody's scores, as I'd get over 100 extras

Pinball - mightily impressed by Tillman's dedication.

I downloaded the updated version of outrun on My 360 from xbox live and love it. Game has the Ferrari Dino, the 360, GTO and others. Only five bucks too.

What I've done now is start getting these systems again - I have an NES, Genesis, Dreamcast along with the two Xboxes - and I'm playing through the 'best of' titles with my sons. They are not into the best/newest thing (although they ask for a Wii), as we play the best of games from those old systems and have just as much fun. They LOVE Mega Man and we've only played through #2 so far! I've told them there are more but I don't think they realize yet (there's still 5 more on NES, 3 on SNES!).
