No Rear Testarossa Tires Available Anymore?!

That Toyo is a Proxes TQ, It's a Drag Radial. Only good for going in a straight line. Crash and burn if you try to turn.
There are bunch of tires out there that are the correct size but NOT for Sports cars and type of driving they do.

The fronts are 225/50-16 and quite common.

 

how about the G-Force sport. They don't show them as out of stock or N/A?

 

Kuhmo no longer available............But.......Sumitomo's (I think the spelling is correct) at least last I knew, they had the appropriate sizes, that was about a year or so ago (bought 3 sets from Tire Rack!!)

I'll see if I can get my Son to take a pix of the stickers on the tires and have him email them to me so I can post............away on biz till the 16th.

About to grab a couple of sets of BFG's while still available!!

Tire rack still lists them so I assume they are available?

 

Sumitomo on Tire rack doesn't list any sizes that will fit the rear of the TR currently.
Tire Rack still lists the Kumho 265/45-16. I think I'll give them a call.

 

I'm running a set of 18 inch diameter 360 Modena wheels on my TR, so I dont have to deal these tire issues. I have the original TR wheels with new Dunlop Sports tucked away.

Great research Spasso. On the 265/45/16...are they larger in profile...more donut?

I have Suitomos on my TR now. They wore very well for 5 years. I originally bought them at the tire rack was was just going to buy another set. Well...surprise...surprise...no longer available.


It seems the Kumho's are the winner...

I got the Kumhos and they're awesome. Here's the winning pic...a gorgeous TR with a gorgeous girl and a set of Kumhos. Note how "Ecsta" is strategically placed by Monica...I wish I could claim I staged it that way.

i have the kumos on my 930 turbo...very good tires. round, quiet and sticky!!

I had the Falken Ziex 512s for about 40,000kms. They worked well enough as an all around tire, certainly can't complain about treadwear as it was all mostly long-distance trips and a few light track days. Noise and ride were alright, nothing special, but certainly nothing wrong with them in those two departments. An hey, it's a sub-hundred buck tire, so what can you expect.

Only two real criticisms were the rain performance (brutal, they aquaplaned on the slightest bit of water even at low speeds) and I absolutely hated the way they looked. The sidewall tapered way inward and made the rears look way too small.

I have the BFGoodrich g-Force jobbies now and so far am happy with them. They look more 'correct' on the rim, and sidewalls look very similar to the original Goodyears when my car is right next to one equipped with them. Have done one light track session with them and they're fine. Nothing spectacular, but they work predictably an easily. The ride quality in normal driving is noticably better than the Falkens and they're quiet. But that's only after about 500kms or so, so we'll see how they fare as the mileage racks up.

I was thinking about trying the Kumho Ecsta units that Spasso was talking about, but they weren't in stock anywhere when I was ready to buy. Sounds interesting, though.

The /45 of the the equation makes them 1/10" lower in profile and slightly wider than the BFG's. Judging from Eggo's picture the sidewalls fit the rims better in the rear than the BFG's.

 

That's my complaint with the BFG's I have on my TR now. The side walls curve in from the rim somewhat though not as bad as what the Falkens sound like.

Again, the picture Eggo posted shows a good sidewall profile on the rear with the Kumho's.

I hope they are still available when it's time to buy. My BFG's were new in 2005 and hardly worn..................................

You're exactly right, the Falkens looked ridiculous. I am amazed that two tires from different manufacturers with the same 255/50-16 size can look so different. Everyone commented on them. The BFGs by comparison look more like the original Goodyears.
There was a Testarossa at the dealership where I have my car serviced right next to mine with the Goodyear ZR 50s on it (not sure how old they were, but it was a very, very low mileage car in absolutely mint condish) and the BFGs had the same shape and 'fender-fill' as they did.

The Kumhos on Rick's (Eggo's) car look just perfect.

Tire Rack has the Kumhos. I just bought two sets apx. $500.00 a set. Great look and fit. Set for years to come.

 

I was going to talk with Goodyear about this, but have not followed up, I have the note here Spasso.....

Tire Rack does not list a Goodyear that is "W" or "Y" speed rated for sports cars in 255/50-16 OR 265/45-16 sizes.
(Or any speed rating in those sizes for that matter.)

I haven't found any site that does.

 

True, they have an entire Vintage Tire Division tho, and make DOT racing tires too, so there's got to be a solution for us....are those your front/rear requirements...???

 

Both numbers are REAR options, the REAR tires are the issue.
The fronts are 225/50-16, easy to come by in a wide variety.

 

I'll get that to the Distribution Warehouse manager and let him work on it awhile....

With all my cars broken, I don't NEED any new tires! LOL!

 

I hope their "Vintage Tire" division isn't Coker territory. Their prices are stupid-high (but understandable).
