    Hello fellas,

My first post here. Just looking for advice on nice roads to drive in the area. I am in southern west county, and getting tired of driving uo and down the Sprain, Taconic, etc. I did drive Bear Mountain State Park area which was very nice.
Just wondering where you all go to get away from the traffic!

    Thanks!

    Frank

    BTW I drive a 1980 308 GTSI....any of you live in Bronxville/Yonkers area??

I'm not an FCar owner but besides all that, I think we have some of the best roads in Westchester Co. The Merritt is nice although that goes into CT., Saw Mill going north, RT22 going north of White Plains. A lot of times I would just go out and pick a direction and see where it takes me, LOL.

take the bronx river up to the dam, stay to the right for rt 22 north. Go a few miles, make a left at the eagle into the town of armonk. That becomes rt 128. Take rt 128 until if forks and stay to the rigth, at northern westchester hospital make a right onto rt 172. Take that until the end, make a left back onto rt 22. Feel free to get lost anywhere around there, especially this time of the year with the leaves. If you get really far up into bedford, watch out for the dirt roads.

For the greenwich ride, take the merrit, to lake or round hill rd, and get lost back there. have fun.

Take Rt. 7 north from Danbury up to Lime Rock. Stop at the Kent Coffee & Chocolate Co, for the best espresso around and continue north on Rt. 7 from there to the track, it's a really beautiful road and one of my faves.

I just got back from a 50 miler in the 599 North Salem, Purdys, Goldens Bridge, etc. Titicus is awesome with windy roads and great scenery. Doing Rt 116 and 121 up and around - even touching in Ridgefield (which is not that far up). Route 22 to Deans Corners is cool too as is dipping into Mahopac (the Lake Drive is pretty a blast).

Not much traffic and decent speed limits. Why travel Saw Mill and Taconic, when all of this is available.

Stef, long shot but do recall one day in the distant past (1-3yrs ago maybe?) beginning the Titikakka (titicus :D ) run w.three Ducatis behind you? If so, that was me and a couple others. If not, well, it was a fun jaunt through the 1st few sweepers until the 430 backed off. And, do you have a moustache? Asking since you mention my backyard (lake house is on Mahopac) and over the summer I saw a red 430 spyder several occasions.

Anyway, to the OP - this is all great advice. Starting from Mahopac up into what Stef notes is a great loop along/across a bunch of scenic reservoirs and causeways. Along with above noted routes check out
-301 from Carmel to Cold Spring, but don't waste your time in Cold Spring going to the bottom of the hill; break north on 9G at the Sunoco and then head back east on any of the county routes (marked by blue signs w.yellow text) before you get to Beacon. Best part of 301 is the easterly section of sweepers once you cross the causeway. Which is why I suggest hitting those and then...
-county route 42 off rt 301 (at the apex of a nice turn just past the cemetery along the 3rd (short) set of sweepers heading west and bounce around between rt 22 and the Taconic as your easterly and westerly, respectively, boundaries into Dutchess where the roads just get better and better
    -County routes (CR)
    - 21 between CR 9 and 20/Rt 22 (two nice, very tight chicanes, better going uphill/west)
    - 24 btwn Clover and Dover Plains (known in my Duc group as the Duc Eater)
    - pretty much most roads w.county route designations are good drives

Rt 7 in CT into Kent area is nice but often jammed up with peepers and weekend traffic. Best done very early if you want to check it out. Wandering Moose is up that way and a good stop for eats.

Send me a PM if you want a tour guide up there. Sent the F south for her 'winter training' but I'm sure my 916 wouldn't mind kicking around with a 4wheeled cousin

I'm in Hartsdale. During the summer I'm in BXV for sushi (Haiku) a few times a week; shoot down the BRP from Hartsdale to BXV in the 328 - it's a great 8mi run, esp through Garth woods northbound.

I know a route in upper Westchester through South Salem along the reservoir... Maybe I'll take some of you guys on it sometime!!!

I also know a decent route in Greenwich, but it's short and gets boring after a while. But hey, it's Greenwich! :D

    Hey Fellas,

Why don't we stop typing and all get together for a road trip? What do you think? The weather has been lousy but maybe we can figure something out before winter comes.
