Is anyone interested in having a playoff challenge league? If you don't know what that is, let me explain. You pick starters at the positions. You pick a player on a team you think will advance the furthest in the playoffs, because their point total doubles and triples as they (and their team) advances in the playoffs, so it behooves you to pick a player on a team that you think will advance. If you pick a guy and he gets points but his team loses, you get his points, but then you have to pick a replacement player for the next round, and that new player only gets 'normal' points, but if his team advances to the next round, at that point he gets double points, and so on. But if your replacement player gets bounced, then you have to pick yet another replacement player, and yes, that replacement player starts getting points from scratch. And you can all pick the same players, it's not like the fantasy leagues where nobody can have the same players. You just don't all want to pick the same players, but I would bet that at least 50% of the rosters are the same - which is fine. Anyone interested? Yahoo league? < most likely ESPN league? NFL.COM league? I will start one if there is an interest...
To make it clear, you CAN have the same guys on your team as the next guy, it's not like a 'draft' where only YOU can have a certain player. If you think Todd Gurley will do well, you can take him - and so can anyone else that wants him. If you think Drew Brees will do well, take him, and anyone else can, too. The attraction is trying to guess what players will perform the best AND the longest, so if you are sure you know which teams will make it to the SB, then you might want to skew your team to players on those teams. The thing is, you will always have one or two, or even three players that have a killer game - you get all their points - but their team loses and you have to replace that player going forward, and the replacement player starts at square one with no point multiplier. I have started a public league on NFL.COM called ferrarichat, join if you like, it does not matter to me, I am playing regardless... And with that I won't pursue this with you folks... Good luck.
Joined. A little bit of Cowboys bias to the picks. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login T
I did OK. I didn't realize that players that had a bye got 2x points the next week (my bad). I probably would have played a different QB at the very least. Image Unavailable, Please Login
im second but i am sucking. the thing is, if ALL players played to their expectations, and you loaded up with players on teams you KNEW were going to be in the SB, then this might be easy. but it isnt, players get hurt, some just suck, you never know.
I was doing great a few years ago when I last entered the contest, but none of my players' teams went deep. So, I eventually stalled...T
To do well, you need to pick the teams that keep going, early. Since I don't follow football, I have no idea . But I always underate the Patriots cause I hate them, so I am heavy on the Chargers. I guess I am betting against my home team Eagles with the addition of Brees and Thomas. My feeling is that Indy won't beat KC but I have pretty much stayed away from both (I'm tempted to grab Kelce and give up my 2X on Ertz) I think the Rams will take care of the Cowboys (sorry Tom) but hopefully Cooper gets me some decent 2X points on his way out.
But you do have a pretty good lead now... Yes, I have been playing this for years, and I can tell you the overall winning teams have NOT had the same players from game one, they usually have had to swap in three new players at some point. But as you said, it is best if you can get lucky and pick players on teams that DO make it to the SB for the 2x 3x and 4x points, but some of those players simply do not perform, such as, let's say you picked a TE for Seattle, Rams or Dallas, chances are they won't get that many points compared to a Kelce or Ertz.... but do what you need to, nobody knows how any player will be used, take a look at Gronkowski, he's been terrible points-wise, but is he 'due'? TOMC is leading our small group, don't forget to add new players if you lost any last weekend...
Tried to be a tad more atypical for next week, but at this point, options are dwindling...T Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cooper sure faded into oblivion, didn't he? I think Linehan used him as a decoy for Elliott, or so it seems. Oh well, no more Linehan, we will see how next season goes. Dallas HAS to find a go-to TE - most every winning team has multiple options (more than two), Dallas doesn't. Rams are loaded with skill position options - and actually DO use their no-name TE's once in awhile.
I think Cowboys really wanted Dallas Goedert (TE) in the draft, and not just for his name, but Eagles nabbed him. They got a peach in van Der Esch, but doesn't solve the problem you pointed out, and I've droned on about for years, the are woefully thin at the skill positions. I think Jarwin will be good, but not a star. The Rico Gathers experiment - I don't see that working out...T
I think you have a lock on it, Tom, unless your guys all break legs and the other teams in the contest pick guys that have 30-40 point games, we can't catch you.
