    But, to get back on topic. The dealership I bought from explained that the major dealers (at least in Toronto) had other more significant business interests, so the exotic cars were a sideline (and quite possibly a tax write-off).

    That would explain why some of these cars can sit for years as there is no pressure to sell. And I've got to be thinking that based on overhead, sales commissions, etc even with that built into the price of selling a new car, realistically how many turn over per month?

    I lucked out as the car I bought was priced to sell. But I am seeing a steady rise in prices.

    "A lot of those cars were bought new between 1988 and 1991, when Ferrari dealers had an oversupply of used Testarossas that never found buyers because of the financial crash of 1987. So buyers in 1988 and 1989 were often able to pick up two cars almost for the price of one, as Ferrari dealers traded unsold examples among each other. In 1989, new Ferrari buyers already wanted the new 348, so if they were in the market for a new Ferrari the Testarossa was already a little stale to their eyes."

    They are talking about 166k for a concours quality 512TR. That means a car that is currently asking around 265k. 100k discount?

    That’s stupid as hell.

    180 for a white TR with new Tubi exhaust and a white interior? I’d call that a great deal. Course it was from a friend who didn’t have to pay a broker.

    Well said? Please see post #27 and explain how the writer of this story came up with this gem;

    "Ferrari dealers had an oversupply of used Testarossas that never found buyers because of the financial crash of 1987. So buyers in 1988 and 1989 were often able to pick up two cars almost for the price of one...."

    The Testarossa is my all time favorite Ferrari and my all time car. But this guy lost any and all credibility with that statement.

    Not at all. Yes, there is dealer swapping going on in the hope that prices will climb, and some are pushing the prices upward.

    At the same time, some dealers are also reducing inventory at large discounts. McLaren depreciation is major.

    So, at end of day, some dealers are saying if asking price was $300,000 in 1989 why should it not be in 2019.

    So the musical chairs is about to get drummed up again!? Sleezebags. Further proof that artificially low interest rates encourage malinvestment.
