Yeah, you may have to rotate the steering wheel while jiggling the key to get the whole affair unlocked. Also, keys can get locked in the switch and not release if the battery is dead or switched off. And I gather you switched the battery to get the radio codes to reset.
Yes, and I tried what you said and it worked !! Birthday weekend back on track ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice. Just wait for one of the headlights to not go back down - they u will be officially initiated Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Battery comes out if you unbolt the coolant tank. You don't have to remove the coolant tank, just unbolt the bracket. If you're has a current drain(many do) drop the windows an inch and turn the battery disconnect knob(installed at factory). Only time I had to change battery is when I let the car sit too long with battery connected.
Thank you, sir. Duly noted and registered. The Assembly number is a separate tag in the engine compartment. Latest version of the 456M register is attached.
So that happened actually last night and just this afternoon......it rectified itself. Sounds like I am in. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did you put the gearshift in PARK? Try jiggling the gear lever. Normally, when you go to Park, a solenoid activates (or deactivates... I can't remember which) to let you release the key. The battery may need to be hooked up. If you still have problems, there is a mechanical knob under the lock which you need to pull to release the key. (EDIT) Disregard... I see it's fixed.
Assembly number below. Where might the engine number be ? Thanks for the registry. Very cool. Image Unavailable, Please Login
From previous information, your engine number is 76173. My car, the next 456 built is engine # 76185. So 12 V-12 engines were built between ours. As the other v-12 car in production at the time (and at its largest rate of production at the time) was the 575. Your assembly number is 50033 while mine is 50100. So 67 cars went down both the V-12 and V-8 production lines between our two. That picks up the 360 Modenas and Spiders, both of which were being built at the time along with the 575s. Note that our VIN numbers are only 1 number apart and sequential. Now you see how much fun it is trying to figure out this stuff from the Ferrari data. VIN numbers, Assembly Numbers, and Engine Numbers each have methodologies and mysteries all their own. Thanks for sharing the assembly number. The engine number is stamped into the block but quite hard to access I believe. Haven't seem mine except on paperwork.
I will get the engine number ! Question: Does the assembly number mean my car was the 50,033th Ferrari road car assembled or does the chassis # designate something less specific ?
Congrats on the purchase. I own a 1999 456 MGTA since 2007. Garage Queen but I love driving it whenever I get the chance. Its Black on Black..
You're right, Taz. My wife and I did the factory tour last September. Engine build isn't as separated as car assembly is. The tour takes you along the V8 assembly line but not upstairs for the V12 assembly. The whole numbering scheme between engines, assemblies and VIN is amusing. Jeff, no, your assembly number of 50033 has, in no way, any meaning that that is the number of cars Ferrari has build. Not that I know of. Perhaps others can throw in here concerning the vagaries of Ferrari numbering systems.
Ferrari used assembly numbers early in production, but the system now in use came later. Serial numbers for production V12s and V8s from the 308 GTB used only odd numbers until SN 75000, when the factory started using even and odd numbers. There are production number documents, published by Maranello Concessionaires, that have total Ferrari production by year that can give you an idea where your car fits. Remember, too, that there were also even number Ferrari competition cars and Dinos to make it even more complex. Somewhere in there, Ferrari started numbering engines, too, but that also includes spare engines, so again not a great indicator of total production.
Ta Da!! Now find it on the block!! LOL BTW, your interior looks gorgeous, Jeff. Really showroom new looking.
Thanks, I just used Leatherique as recommended on the forum. It took some time but worked great. Image Unavailable, Please Login
