I found bunch of Ferrari key chains for your 3x8 at the Ferrari store in San Francisco at 40% off the original price of 30 bucks, so they are about 18 bucks each. These are discontinued that was why they're on sale, I bought only 5 of them so there're some left, they're at the cashier counter on the 1st floor, have fun shopping...

They're not really reproductions, they're the later Coinart versions and are still an original Ferrari keyring, they're just from a different period.

As for the price of the Lorioli keyrings, I wouldn't spend $20 on one, never mind hundreds of dollars!

To Me, the Cavallino looks to be a very poor reproduction of the Ferrari logo! The head is too small and the raised rear leg looks to be completely wrong!

The cheaper Coinart version on the other hand, is a far more accurate reproduction of the logo, as I see it.

I'll be controversial here and say that if you placed the two key-rings next to each other and asked someone who didn't know their Ferrari key-rings: "Which keyring would you say is a replica?", I suspect most would pick out the Lorioli keyring! To me, it looks that poor!

Is the stye of the ones available at the SF Ferrari store contemporaneous to the 3x8 and typical of what would have come with the car new? This is the style of key fob that came with my 328 when I got it earlier this year - I had no idea if was original to the car but it looked old enough to me. I use that carbon fiber one from a 40% off coupon on the online Ferrari Store with an F50 key and Mondial door key.. even if it doesn't quite match the correct period look for the 308 I like it.

Superformance sells a similar black leather/metal insert key fob for $10, I have one for my spare key set and it looks great. Don't think I could ever justify $200 on a key fob. Very cool your car came with one though, way better than the small wooden block that came with mine.

I have a couple of both, the Lorioli came with my '85 when new. The Coinart I bought from FAF a few years later. $12 each at the time.

Afaik these are not aftermarket but the newer version of the key chain that was given to the customers back then. These would still look to be the correct period key chain for you 3x8. Even these new one are being discontinued, let me see if I go back and buy all of them, there was about 15 of them, I bought 5 so there was about 10 left...

That would be awesome. I'd buy 2 for sure at whatever price you decide to sell them for.

I would like a few also if you get them..

I have one of the original ones the skinner the neck the older the fob. The 1975 one I have has the skinny neck. I once dropped it and put a small dent in the edge but it still is nicer than some of the $$$ ones….

I've got the Coinart version (Part No. 95991640), which I bought from Maranello Concessionaires here in the UK way back yonder (can't remember how much I paid but it wasn't that much).

Comparing it the Lorioli versions, it just looks much better to Me.

Put it this way, if the original Lorioli key rings didn't exist, and someone made a keyring/chain today with the Cavallino looking exactly like the Lorioli Cavallino, Ferrari owners/fans would point out how inaccurate it looked and hardly anybody would buy them, let alone pay $700~$900 for them.

I'm one of the lucky one's in that I'm as skinny now as I as I was 20 years ago! (and no! - I don't exercise and I'm currently tucking into a large pizza with extra cheese on it and an extra 12 rashers of bacon on it! - Mmmmmm......... nice! :D ).

My problem with the earlier keyring/chains is that, if you compare the cavallino on the ring/chain to the cavallino on the Ferrari badges/paperwork etc of the time., they look nothing alike! - The ring/chain Cavallino just looks a bit amateurish to Me.

Anyway, I'll leave it at that before people on here start to think that I'm on some sort of crusade! ;)

I would use the word "stylized" instead. The key ring manufacturers had nothing to do with the Ferrari Factory and their artists interpreted the Cavallino in their own unique ways. I like that kind of free-thinking. Thus we've had an assortment of key ring Cavallinos over the years.

The horn button on my 1976 fiberglass GTB was the early type with a silver ring. The cavallino was a bit thinner than the one on the hood badge.

This O.M.E.A. key ring preceded the one from A.E. Lorioli...

So, the Coinart key rings are discontinued, huh? That's a shame. It's the end of a 50 year era. I think this type of key ring is most elegant in its simple design.

So these keyring/chains were not supplied by Ferrari with the cars when new? - If that is the case, then I definitely can't see why anyone would pay $700~$900 for them!

And that looks a lot better than the Lorioli keyring to Me.

If I'm going to pay top dollar for a keyring, I don't want someone's "stylized" artistic interpretation of the Cavallino, I want it to look like the logo that the manufacturer actually uses, there's far more skill involved in making it look exactly right rather than something that merely looks similar!

Put it this way, would you put a replica nose badge on the front of your car that was someone's "stylized" artistic interpretation of the Cavallino, or would you want it to be spot on accurate? - I know which one I'd prefer and it's the same with the keyring.

Luckily enough for Me though, My el-cheapo Coinart keyring bought from Ferrari's official UK importer is spot on correct to Ferrari's official Cavallino so I'm a happy chappy! :)

    To the OP:

If these keyring/chains really are being discontinued, then based on the Lorioli prices, store them for a good few years and then sell them for a massive profit later on! ;)

The Coinart are available other sources for around $100. Anyways, there is a difference between what look betters (in the eyes of the beholder) and what came with the car, not that any of that matters unless you are annal about it. :)

I love this leather key ring although I am sure it isn't kosher. The cavalino is very well executed however. I will be taking it for new leather to the saddle shop nearby.

Remember.... the key chain MUST be original... if not, the car will be worth AT LEAST 75% less should one decide to sell it; and it MAY NEVER win a Concourse.... :) :) LoL!
