I used to have a car whose doors open like this.. Not like this, not like this. These are not the doors of a billionaire Richard! F You! Well these are... :)

I haven't posted in a while. So the deed is done. I said good bye to my beloved F360. The introduction into the super car world for me. What a car it was, reliable, beautiful, nimble, fast, classy and beautiful. I took the plunge, I went over to the dark side and turned Ferrari my back, for now. Why? Because I finally mustered up the courage to buy my absolute dream car, which I have been admiring for years and years, but never had the funds to buy. Once an unimaginable dream, I finally pulled the trigger on a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 finished in Arancio Atlas (orange). And oh boyyyyy what a difference this car is. I have LOVED my 360, but that car doesn't come close to the power, the torque, the sheer force that the Murci has. Granted, we are talking about a very different price point here, but I am on cloud 9. Besides the constant tractor jokes from my Ferrari friends, which I have heard in every possible way now, this switch could have not been any smoother.

My first impressions on the Murci: Power, power, power to no end! The car just pulls and then pulls some more. Compared to the 360 (or mostly any Ferrari I would argue) this car gets an incredible amount of attention. You can't get out of a parking lot under 15 minutes, because everyone wants to know what kind of car it is etc. When the wings deploy, it just looks like a badass stealth fighter and you can just hear the engine sucking in a humongous amount of air... It's loud, yes really loud (granted my Murci has a Kreissieg exhaust on it). Compared to the F360, this car is heavy, wide, long, and large. While I could take the 360 out for a casual Sunday drive, The Murci requires your full attention, and often both hands on the wheel. It sits incredibly low to the ground, the front lift system helps enormously when needed.

All in all and after only a couple of days, I LOVE the LP640. The car makes no sense whatsoever, you can barely see out the back, can't see anything out the side, it gets like 7 or 8 mpg?? But it's the last true V12 Lambo built, the doors open up (yes they are billionaire doors, haha), and the looks are just out of this world. In a straight line it has incredible power and pulls to no end. I think it tops out at around 210? But who needs that when you start peeing your pants at 170...

Either way, I have thoroughly enjoyed my Ferrari 360, but it is no match to the raging V12 Bull. The Murcielago is just an incredible piece of art and machinery. Looks are all subjective, but I have a hard time finding a more over the top, crazy looking car than the Murci. It just really speaks to my senses, and I hope it will hold up in terms of reliability compared to my absolutely trouble free 360.

I figured everyone enjoys some car porn, so pics added! Feel free to add on!!

Very cool but why is it the last V12 from Lamborghini, are you not counting the Adventador and any other up-coming V12 models?

Definitely not the last V12 Lamborghini, just the last True V12 from Lamborghini. That engine dates dates back to 1963 (3.5L) in the Lamborghini 350GT. The last true Lambo V12 was used in the Murcielago (6.5L). The Aventador is a completely reworked engine, basically 2xV6. From a performance standpoint it's a great engine, improved obviously, but it doesn't have the history and pedigree that the original Lamborghini V12i has. So along with the Murcielago died a piece of Lambo V12 history, and I'm happy I can hold on to that with this car.

I couldn't agree more, when I traded my 360 spider for my Murcie Roadster, I never looked back, and you are right, when it is parked it is hard to take your eyes off of it !!

Thanks Tom!! I loved my 360. Absolutely fantastic car, but it was time for me to move on to something else! I wanted over the top, uncompromising, crazy, insane, raw, brutal, loud, fast, low, batwings, nutty!! Me enthusiastic..?? What makes you think that?? lol!

And wow Hubbster, that is one badass piece of Machinery you have there. Incredible!! I hope you do park it in the batcave :)

Congrats on a beautiful car and fulfilling your dream! I've always been a big fan of the V12 Lambos as well. They have quite the presence. I hope to one day be able to move into one as well.

How do you think maintenance costs on the Murci will compare to the 360? I'm pretty familiar with Ferrari repair costs, not so much on Lambos.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Hey Scott, thanks so much! :) I'm sure you can relate to this: When I bought my first Ferrari (360) everyone told me maintenance was going to be through the roof. The 360 needs belt, older technology than the 430 etc etc etc. I took the plunge anyhow, and I had NOTHING on that car. I mean literally the most reliable car I had ever owned.
Now on the Murcielago, every person that I have talked to that DIDN'T actually own the car told me maintenance is nuts, that's why they decided against it, or bought the Gallardo instead. However, EVERY single person that actually owns or owned the car told me they had NOTHING wrong with it. Now, there is a big difference between the LP models (Audi influence on parts etc) and the pre LP models. The older Murcis have quite a few issues compared to the LP, leakage, seals, outdated egear software etc.
The LP used to demand a 100k premium for a good reason. Now they're about 40-60k premium I'd say. My Mechanic strongly suggested the LP, and all they do is work on Italian exotics. He said they don't come in, just annual. They're solid cars, no issues.

The one big job is the clutch. And yes, engine out, and yes it'll probably cost 8-12k compared to about 3-4k on the 360. So when you're looking to buy one, make sure you get the clutch snap, negotiate that into the deal if it needs a new one, and you should be good.
I had mine checked out by my shop when the car got here, and they literally said we'll see you next year summer for the regular annual.

So to conclude, I'm hoping maintenance will be comparable in terms of reliability. IF something breaks it tends to get more expensive on the Murci, but in general the LPs are solid cars from everything that I know and every owner I have ever talked to. Lots of people trying to justify why they got a G over a M because of higher maintenance cost. In my opinion that's a bunch of bull (pun intended). No doubt the G is a much better performing and more practical car, but me personally, I'd go V12 insanity all day long over the tamer little brother, and I think on the LPs maintenance wise you're good if you do your due diligence and get the properly cared for car. Higher mileage with properly documented service any day of lower mileage and not driven!

Thanks for the reply. That's exactly what I was looking for. One of my favorite features on the Murci is the way the air intakes open at the back. They look so menacing! I agree with the V12 insanity comment! I'm glad you took the plunge. I can certainly see your excitement from reading this thread.

I took the plunge on a much smaller scale with a recent Maserati purchase (I'm a previous multiple Porsche owner). Now I'm slowly getting my feet wet with exotics and will hopefully have the courage to go all out with a V12 Lambo one day. I think this thread and your enthusiasm just gave me an extra nudge :)

Glad to hear Scott! You won't regret it, the Murci is an absolutely insane car and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. And yes, the bat-wings just take it to another level, lol :)
Anyhow when you're ready to pull the trigger, feel free to pm me, I'm happy to share my experience throughout the buying process :) Other people did that for me, and I made some new friends, and got some incredibly helpful feedback and input.
