I recently broke the hinge part of my roof latch on my Mondial. I designed a replacement that looks very similar to the original one, but is much improved.

I had a friend make a pair in his machine shop and I installed them on my 88.5 Mondial with great success.

I would be willing to have him make more and provide them to fellow Mondial owners at his cost, however, I would prefer to do this once.

The cost would depend on quantity as tooling is involved.

A picture of the replacement is attached. He would provide them black anodized with hardware.

Please let me know if you would be interested.

    Thanks
    - Ron

I had the same problem and also had braces machined. I did not have to bend the ends but just had two braces made. It was simple and cheap, and works fine. A new latch system from ferrari is $450.

I should be able to provide pricing tomorrow, or Friday.
I met with the machinist today and he promissed to get back to me tomorrow. I'll be in NYC all day so it is likly that I wont be able to post any new information until Friday when I return.
Construction will be stainelss toggles, ( Im not sure how to refer to them) with titinaum pins. Extra strong and will not fail. Hoping to make these available as kits, two per.
    Thanks
    - Ron

I just spoke with the machine shop.

Based on the small quantity, the pricing would be in the area of $220.00 for one pair. Specifically, this would include two stainless toggles bent and machined as seen in the attached photo and two titanium e-clips.

Please understand that you would receive the toggles finished with black passivate (pictured unpainted) and one pin and e-clip per assembly. Assembly requires two pins and e-clips, but you already have one that can be re-used.
This does not include the handle and mounting plate. One pair means on for the left side of the car and one for the right.

You would need to simply disassemble your current latch assembly (if it’s intact) and reassemble it with the "new and improved" toggle using your own springs and hardware.

I can tell you that it is a direct replacement for my 88.5 Mondial Cabriolet. I do not know if it is a direct replacement for other years.

This effort came from my own need for this replacement part, discovery that they don’t exist, experience as a mechanical engineer, and hope to help other Mondial enthusiasts. (I am adding a small cost to cover my time)

I would need to figure out payment and delivery methods as I am not experienced in this area. Delivery would be about three weeks after I place the order and I need to order a total of 25 pairs for this cost. I have been told that the cost could come down significantly with a larger order.

If you are sincerely interested, please add to the post and send me a PM.

    Thanks
    - Ron

Can anyone with Mondial t experience weigh in here? My gut says the top is the last thing Ferrari would have changed during the run so probability is high that these latches will work.

Did anyone figure out an answer to if this fix will work for the mondial t?

Ron, I just sent you an email asking if you still had any inventory left.

I was able to make the same latch pictured above for a lower cost.
I had a company make a bending die. Currently, I need to charge $85.00 each to cover the cost of toolong and material.
If you are interested, send me a PM
    Thanks
