If you think a Singer is just a restored 964, you need to look into it much more:) But yes, people pay that for Singers, and to me they definitely look like they are worth it. Hopefully I'll get my shot behind the wheel within the next 6 months unless there's further delays.

And where I am, a Singer with the 4.0 engine is actually half the price of an F8 due to taxes.

What you need then is a time machine to take you back to the 1960s...
I would also suggest an Exige V6, but you would have pay today's equivalent of the 1960's $50K...

Lotus Exige, but about double the money.
As much as I like Lotuses, I don't consider this recipe worthy of a Ferrari.

Hah, I laugh when I see people say things like this.

I can look in the Japanese market and find loads of well engineered cars well under 50K that can do the job.
    Also easily tunable.

I am not aware of any proper Japanese sportscar (coupe, rear wheel drive) with a V6, less than 1100, manual everything, left hand drive and sold as new.

Used Japanese. I'm saying used, preferably 90s.

    Is it impossible?

Even the original Dino was relatively heavier, more powerful and more expensive than what you´re asking for. It´s just that time has passed, back in the day not so many cars had 200 hp.

BTW, I´ve heard rumours of a Maserati version of the Alfa 4C, but with a V6, and of course more luxurious, heavier and more expensive. Any truth in that?

There's of course the Porsche GT4. A brilliant little car. Manual, 6 banger, and throw some properly light wheels on it, and you have an astonishingly fun track car.

    Yes, I like the Cayman.

    Inflation, right?

Well, relating to the 4C, I saw this video and I'm realizing the possibilities behind the car if in the right hands.

So, 1990s NSX it is... Nice car. Then again, what does this anything to do with a 2020 Ferrari?

Well, it is somewhat indirectly responsible for Ferrari getting their act together in the 90's. So I suppose it does have something to do with a 2020 Ferrari.:)

We could perhaps say that it had something to do with the F355, even though the 348 was ultimately quicker than the NSX, but is surely has nothing to do with the Ferrari of 2020.

Not only the NSX. Even if not mid engined, there are a couple cars even front engine, that will rip for less than 30.
    Rx-7, GTR.

They all have electric windows and are much more than 1100 kilos. Not to mention that only the Nissans have a V6. :D

It depends on one's definition of "perfect". What you are describing is far from perfect for my liking. Actually, I wouldn't be interested in such a car at all. One of the most disappointing drives of my life was an Elise, that all journos waxed lyrical about. It was slow-ish (okay, there are quicker variants), the steering was unnecessarily dim-witted and heavy, the unassisted brakes offered poor retardation and the turn in was sluggish. Ingress, egress and driver comfort are issues best left untouched... Others love it though.

So the reality is all these cars are far from perfect for your liking. Since this is the little brother thread does the tried and true V8 package or the replacement V6 package have a greater appeal for you? Curious minds and all that...

Thank you for asking, even though I don't think that my opinion is of great importance. As a general rule, I always go for the greater cylinder count, but it is almost certain that the new (V6) car will offer the better drive. What is your take on the subject?

I mean V8 or V6 is good, but with a V6, could go light weight and be fun and peppy.

The weight difference of those 2 cylinders is negligible, perhaps less than 30 kilos overall. The driving and auditory experience though might be substantial.
