Congratulations on your new acquisition. Having had a 550, 575 and now an SA I can say I love Maranellos. I think they are amoungst the best GTs ever built by Ferrari. And the SA is my fav of the trio.

You will have some great rides in your new SA. Nothing like the top down on a sunny day with the V-12 in full song.

    Many happy revs......

Congratulations and welcome to our 550/575/575 SA family.
Your SA really looks great in TDF/Cuoio.
Wonderful acquisition. Enjoy it - especially when you're admiring it up close.

The best sounding Maranello/Superamerica aftermarket exhausts are the Kreissieg and Capristo, both of which are available with remote control for the exhaust bypass valves using their own solenoid. The Novitec is close and has 90 mm exhaust pipes (OEM is ~72 mm). The highest pitched sound is the Kreissieg and the lowest is the Novitec. Below those three high priced systems are several that sound good including Tubi, Larini, X-OST, Quick-Silver, Fuchs, Nouvilari, etc.

    Ordered

    1) Capistro twin sound

    2) Non programable remote

    3) As part of the "package " for 2005 575 Capristo mandates a X-Pipe replacing the secondary cats and pipes (table 21 # 32 part #200995 and#33 part #200996)

I read through all the posts and spoke to manufacturers rep in GA about leaving the pipes as is or using straight pipes instead of the X-pipe. They strongly said this is the way to go

    Thanks for the help.

It is a total waste of money changing your factory straight pipes on your car for X-Pipes, regardless of what any manufacturer says. It will only cost you horsepower and torque.

If you had a center muffler/resonator, it would not make much difference whether you used X-Pipes or straight pipes, but you do not. Ferrari went to straight pipes early in 2004 MY production on the 575M and has stayed with them on the Superamerica, 612, and 599.

The manufacturers sell X-Pipes to replace the old center muffler/resonator on 550s and early 575Ms. Testing has proven the straight pipes produce more hp and torque than the X-pipes, so there is absolutely no reason to change your OEM straight pipes for aftermarket X-Pipes.

There are no secondary catalysts in those center pipes. They (32 and 33) are just straight pieces of stainless steel pipe so whoever told you different is full of crap. I hate it when somebody tries to rip off a customer for another $1500 or so.

Incidentally, the "secondary catalysts" in 575Ms are actually pre-cats in the exhaust headers.

The cost of the X pipe is $500 and I just called the Capristo Rep again and shared the contents of your post to double check.

It appears there may be mutliple correct answers

Taz - I am going to put this one to bed and again I really appreciate your knowledge, effort and time you put into the website.

    Thanks,

    Michael

That color combination is beyond perfection. I'm serious when I say that I would spec one the exact same way.
Don't mind me, I'll just be staring at those pictures for the next few hours.

Edit: Just noticed your Z8, you have impeccable taste.

Michael- Unfortunately, there is only one correct answer, but you can always sell your straight pipes to an early 575M owner. They retail somewhere between $900 and $1600.

I would be very interested in whatever tapdance the Capristo rep fed you. If it includes the words resonance and extraction, it really is a song and dance. There are no secondary cats anywhere near parts 31 and 32.

The parts catalog you quoted was for a 575M, by the way, and there is a Superamerica parts catalog. To actually show how wrong the Capristo rep is, there is no difference between a 2004 575M (Assembly Number 51797 and later) exhaust and a Superamerica exhaust. So why is there some compunction to only require a superfluous X-Pipe on 2005 vehicles? Hogwash.

    Straight pipes.

Michael- Sorry for being bull-headed, but you will be very happy with that combination. I would not mind having a remote solenoid on my HGTC exhaust. I miss the great sounds on the overrun from my old Novitec system, with popping and snarling as you let off the throttle. The bypass valves with OEM solenoid close when you lift your foot, and that kills those very nice noises. With the remote, you can still choose to hear that music if you like.
