I heard about a young luthier here in Dallas who was gaining some acclaim on the Acoustic Guitar Forum. Met with him and picked out the woods in late February.
He has an amazing eye for putting great woods together. I wanted to get in on the ground floor of a new artist, and his early works. My build is #11, and he only started building guitars last May.

Here are the materials being used.

    Cocobolo back and sides
    Sinker redwood top
    Ebony binding
    Maple/KOA/maple- top/Rosette purfling
    Maple back and side purfling
    1-3/4" nut width
    2-1/4 at saddle
    Ebony bridge/fretboard

Here are some progress pics, and a link to his website. Take a look at his guitar gallery for some pics of prior builds. I am really having fun being involved in the process from start to finish.

Now my worry is how the new trophy wife will be accepted by my 1972 Guild D-40 12 string and my 1998 Olson SJ.

+1! Should be good sounding guitar too.

No doubt that the guitar will be accepted by her lovely colleagues. :)

The new guitar showed up yesterday, and I am a proud new papa. Amazing detail, and sounds and plays as good as it looks. Spent a lot of time with her yesterday. Now have to change the callous pattern from 12 string to 6 string. Really like the sinker redwood top, and how it blends with the Cocobolo back and sides. Really like how the sap on the back turned out ! Other than the basic wood choices, I let him do his own thing on the rosette and headstock detail. Turned out great ! Like the feedback the soundport gives as well.

It is a deeper sound than my bright Olson SJ, but I knew that would be the case with the woods I used. Have lights for strings now, and will try ultralights. Any recomendations out there?

Here are a couple of pics, including the new luthier, Jonathan Razo, playing his #11 creation.

He did a photoshoot for his website, so I will post some of those when I get them.

    Beautiful, just beautiful.

So..we DO have a music/guitar section within Fchat ;) very cool!

Oh, and Phillip - I need to forward you an idea for acoustic git stands - no, not one of those uber expensive, crazy hand carved deals. My wife found these all hardwood under $50 ea - very secure and formal living area aesthetically friendly.
