true, an extra $250k on a few dozen cars is a drop in the bucket overall, but could help the Ford GT program (and make it more palatable to the decision makers when the next racing/road car program comes along)

Eh, maybe I'm just older now, but I think a full CF exterior is a waste of a canvas.

Great paint >> great CF layout

Why is the GT heavier by 80kgs despite smaller engine and probably less tech?

The car is massive in size as it was designed right to GTLM specs. Other manufactures add fenders to cover tires and body work to reach the allowed widths and lengths. I have parked next to McLarens, Porsches etc and the new GT is "large" when compared. Also they found in development of the road car that it needed to drop several mm to take full advantage of the cars active aero for customer track days, the race car is just built to correct track ride height. This added nearly 200lbs as I was told. Remember, The GT road car was built solely for homologation reasons. With the class rules being set for HP and weight (ignoring BOP) a motor with massive HP potential for the road car wasn't necessary, therefor the smaller v6 was used allowing the designers to take full advantage of the rules allowed in aero.

Yes I did some reading and that was the main reason. The hydraulics added a lot of weight but active aero proved to make the car faster so they kept it.

Probably because it wasn't designed initially as a road car. It's harder to make an extreme design tame than it is to make a tame design extreme.

While you can always add crazy aero to a road car, you can't necessarily take aero off a race car to make it a road car.

The best road car starts as a road car. The best race car starts as a race car.
