Exotic car club provides members with $11M stable of vehicles.

Orlando Business Journal - by Dan Ping

ORLANDO -- Framed paintings may no longer hang in the former Millennia Art Gallery, but the space still will feature what some would consider works of art.

The 12,005-square-foot building soon will house Luxautica Ultimate Car Club, an exotic fractional car club and gallery featuring 20 vehicles valued at a total of $11 million. All the vehicles are available for use by members who pay at least $38,000 annually.

The menu of cars includes, among others, Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Mercedes and a $1.7 million Bugatti Veyron.

I was there for the grand opening last Friday night.
    What a party!
The caged black panthers was a nice touch!
I drove the Veyron, MC12, and Enzo on the track in Vegas....what a blast. Unfortunately, they have a clause now that says...."if you track it....you own it."
check out luxautica.com for more details.

I was discussing a business idea with Lisa recently. Maybe in a few years (when the kids are gone) turn our place into a bed and breakfast that would include a mild exotic / vintage sports car rental on a membership basis. Like the Luxautica but on a much less expensive scale. She likes to cook, I like cars, seems like it might be fun. I would think we might get some customers if the Moroso track venture gets any traction. Get the pun, traction????
    :)

the idea seems nice.. and to have it here in ORL is great since we dont have many. i read about this company as soon as i heard about it a lil while ago and i have to admit that the vehicles are amazing!! but, Im just not sure that they will be as busy as planned unless they get the word around a lot better than any other company has done in this area in the past... yes, they do offer more exotic supercars if you will, but I know of another place here in Orl that rents exotics, and you never hear about them.. maybe advertising needs to be stronger or something...

    Taken from the article:

"For example, the $38,000 silver membership provides a member with 1,200 annual points. Each car is assigned a daily point value based on its value and rarity. On average, O'Donnell says a silver membership should allow members to drive an exotic car two or three times per month."

Let's say you get to rent an exotic 2.5 times per month (which I'm sure wouldn't include the likes of the Veyron, Enzo, MC-12, etc.-- for those you'd probably only get one day a month), that averages out to about $1,267 per day. That's really not THAT much cheaper than snagging a car for a day from the local exotic car rental shop whenever you want to. And as far as the higher membership levels, I feel like the people who have the money to afford those rates can also afford to buy the car(s) of their choice outright and have it in their garage whenever they want to use it, and not "rent" it from their club...which, by the way, has a mileage allowance restriction and won't allow you to track the car or let a friend drive it.

I like the car/country-club aspect of this idea, offering a lounge for car enthusiasts to congregate and socialize, but I couldn't justify spending so much to belong to such a club. If I could afford a membership to Luxautica, where I would drop a load of loot so I could drive different exotics and have no equity to show for it afterward, I would prefer to lease about 2 different lower-end exotics (say an F430 and Gallardo Spyder) and at least then I'd be able to drive them whenever I wanted with greater flexibility on the restrictions.

The only way I could see myself joining this would be if I was super-loaded to the point where $100,000 is no object, but then again, if I was that rich, I would just buy whatever car I wanted. In my opinion, I don't think there are enough of those kinds of people in Orlando for this to be successful.....but obviously the group behind this Luxautica project have done their due diligence and expect it succeed, otherwise they wouldn't have started it. If it were L.A., Miami, NYC, Seattle, etc. it'd be a different story...

ok i have a few things to say:

    A. you cant just rent some of these cars at ANY exotic rental... so they do have an edge there...

    and

    B. the appeal of not OWNING these cars even if u DID have the money is that its like having the car as much as u probably WOULD drive it if you did own it, but instead you do not have to take care of any of the maintenance/etc...

Hopefully the buisness will survive and get more people interested in owning exotic cars in the Orlando area .. It would be great to see some of the conservitave people in the area have some nice toys that they can show off ...
