Apparently this new Ferrari V12 powered mid engine street car was the belle of the ball at Goodwood. But one person not so happy is Glickenhaus who spent millions making the one off Ferrari P4/5. Like to hear pro designer's theories on whether retro styling (a la P3/4) trumps modern styling that's efficient but less sensuous
Gere's an article on the P72 at Goodwood. I personally love it because I feel for too long weve been led to accept ugly race car styling becuse it's superior in the wind tunnel, but what about Rodeo Drive? Here's an article about its Goodwood debut.

Other than the very front of the nose (which is just as much inspired by the De Tomaso P70) and the shape of the headlights, they are nothing alike. Their basic character and surface development are completely different. The P72 is classic voluptuousness, big curves, big round surfaces, very retro in it's theme. The P4/5 is more modern, more tight. There are a lot of cars that look more like other cars than these 2.

Te P72 is inspired by the P3/4 and the Thommasino (sp?) cars of the 60s. So are other cars. But common inspiration doesn't mean copying.

Besides, anything red with 4 wheels has been in the verbal target range of certain Yankees at some point. Maybe even tricycles.....

Definitely intrigued by the P72 and its overall design language, agreed with the P4/5 being a tighter package in general, a line drawing illustrates here the differences. DeTomaso aren't the only ones however with the classic design language, I find that particularly the SCG 006 is remarkably similar to Ferrari and even Shelby Daytonal, Can't say its a bad thing, but certainly cannot call De Tomaso out for ''tracing''......
