I could write 50 pages but Im going to keep it real short. I have been wanting to convert my 360 F1 to a manual 6 speed for some time. All the original parts for conversion are gone and I was able to find some guy online selling kits for 20,000$, however they dont sell the DIY kits anymore they only sell them installed which is another 15,000$. 35K total. Plus you have to ship the car to them. I didnt know if I should laugh or get mad at the price. A place in California sells off 6 speed parts from wrecked cars at 13K$, but its prepay and the next person in line has been waiting over a year for a wrecked 6speed to come in. So I created my own system. I have a full metal machine shop, with casting capabilities. I redesigned and improved the shifter with all ball bearings, CNC machined from 6061 aluminum, I have recreated an authentic looking clutch pedal that matches the brake pedal design. Originally this was going to be a one off design but a few other people are wanting the conversion now. I Just wanted to see if anyone else might be interested in a conversion system, if no one wants a conversion then Im not going to cast more then 5 systems. Havent got to pricing yet but should be well under 1/2 the cost listed above. Im finishing up some of the casting on clutch pedals so will post some photos after the weekend.

Interesting. I have the perfect candidate sitting at my shop right now. It's an f1 360 that will not move due too f1 system issues. Car has been parked outside for the last 2 months waiting for the owner to make up his mind what he wants to do with it.

As soon as you practicly can..put together some pricing for us. I may be interested. Thank you..

Is your plan to offer a complete, out of the box kit for the DIY crowd? Would be keen to see pics and your own converted car along with pricing.

    Hi Jerad,

I'm working on a large volume, low cost DIY F1 to gated conversion kit. Mostly done, but a few parts are still being made. I plan to sell only complete kits, but if in meanwhile you need any parts that I already have in large volume (like pedals) please let me know and I will gladly help.

Is your objective to build a business around the conversions or do you have other things to do and this is simply a side effect of wanting to convert your car (and maybe convert those of some friends)? If that's the latter, I can share what I have already made and save you the hassle.

I would like to also learn what Jerad is planning for the ECU, but my solution is to provide a simple to use laptop software and associated hardware to do the programming. The hardware is done, software is still in testing. Basically a user selects Gearbox type (Automatic or Manual) and presses "Write". The tool first does the ECU backup (just in case), reads the current ECU software, modifies needed parameters, calculates the checksums etc and writes back the new configuration. The conversion works both ways, from automatic to manual, and also the other way around for anyone who would like to converted gated manual to F1 ;)

    Sample screen shot attached.

This thread calls into play a site policy.

The site policy effected is trying to address the two kinds of posts on a DIY/project thread. The first are the posts that describe a problem and a solution. We welcome those as sharing with the community. The second type of posts are the eventual outcome of most DIY/project threads, which is a solution of some kind, that results in a group buy or tooling bought and paid for and some level of small scale production. This results in solicitations for sale and requests for availability. The second type of posts are in conflict with our policy that there should be no business conducted in the discussion forums, business should be conducted in the classified ad section. Veiled references to contacting the solution developer for "project details" are considered a circumvention as these invariably result in continued requests for availability.

The approved process is to, once the DIY/project enters the solution available for sale phase, have the DIY/project solver post an ad in the classified ad section to offer the solution for sale and then post a link to the ad in the original DIY/project thread and direct all further inquiries to the ad. The thread can still remain for additional questions and improvements to the solution, but any and all availability questions should be directed to the ad.

can the F1 system not be repaired? The only answer is to convert the car to a stick shift?

No problem fixing it. Anything can be repaired. However this particular car has a few rather massive issues over and above the F1 stuff. The option of the conversion could very well be cheaper over the long term then trying to fix the F1 system to return any sort of reliability.

George, great work on all fronts. Regarding the software, this looks brilliant. I take it the EEPROM refers to the dash cluster chip with the F1/manual setting? Regarding the flash, I assume this is the engine ecu(s) flash memory? If so, do you plan to correct existing flash memory to manual mode, or load up a standard manual flash file?

Looks like this software project is using my open source-software to do it... Image Unavailable, Please Login

I fully wrote all the capabilities shown this and released the majority of it (except without a User Interface) into the public domain for those technically minded enough to follow it.

    https://github.com/360trev/ME7RomTool_Ferrari

I know they've used (or been heavily inspired) by my software (which is absolutely fine as I released it FREE) as I "incorrectly" referred to the 360's Bosch ECU as being 'ME7.3H4' when its actually not Hardware revision 4 at all. My mistake which has been copied here too.

The ability to do the checksums on the main rom, the eeprom and even the reading/writing was all disclosed (freely!) several years ago now!

I will do a big upgrade very shortly too which will provide some 'free' tools for Ferrari owners... watch this space...

Exciting thread! Converting my SMG M3 to Manual was the best thing I ever did. Hope I can do the same to my 360 soon :)

Thank you. Moderators noted that any new product discussions should be on the For Sale thread (where I will take it when I have the kit ready for sale :) so I'm avoiding further comments here. Chat may be the best for discussing specifics, but in short:

    1. The shifter rod (the part on which the shift knob screws on) is the same as OEM in a sense that it can be installed into original gated car with all the other original parts

    2. It has been improved comparing to OEM:
    a) It's made of polished stainless steel not chromed steel, so there is no chrome to chip around the gate like in the original. If it is scratched, it can be re-polished.
    b) It's made (CNC) to higher tolerances than OEM.

I also purchased a clutch pedal from George (which is how I initially found out about this avenue) The quality looks great and I'm excited for what's to come.

Hi @modificator, I'm very interested in this kit but I don't yet have PM privileges. I've been looking at 360s (longtime Lotus owner looking to take the Fcar plunge, you can find me on LotusTalk under the same username) and had all but resigned myself to living with an F1, but your kit might be within my budget. If you could PM me with pricing and availability I'd be grateful.

    Thanks,
    Andrew
