Thanks Mike, The A/C now works, according to Gezim. The fuse box has the typical melty/bypassed pompe benzina and rad fan fuses, although the fans now have separate relays, so the fuse box only has to handle switching current now. Gezim is talking about chucking in some breakers to replace a couple of the fuses for safety. I was planning to replace the fuse box with a blade style one, but the rear entry wiring limits my choices. I'll get the radiator cleaned out and see how it goes from there.
Exactly what I did, works really well. I haven't seen a 400 fuse box, but the 412 box uses blade fuses and has problems on all the high current circuits. I know of owners that have re-wired the TR fuse boxes ( basically the same) with excellent results, there are pics on F chat. But if you take cooling fans and fuel pumps away the from the fuse box the car will run and not overheat and those are the main issues, the other circuits don't use much power (you don't drive at night ??) so rarely give trouble. M
The fuses are the ceramic style, like the 308 ones (and probably every other earlier model Ferrari). The 308 fuse box has side entry wire terminals, so was easy to replace with aftermarket blade fuse boxes (modified to bridge the appropriate terminals)
Ok, so now Gizzi has returned the fan wiring to standard, having identified a faulty relay. He then decided to replace EVERY relay, for reliability. His team is now fiddling with the fuse box. If I leave it there much longer, he'll be going for Classiche certification! Still waiting for Marc to check out the front end - maybe this week. And I'm still deciding whether to swap out the TRXs for 16" QV rear wheels all round, or just buy 4 new TRX tyres, at a cost of $2,500, or thereabouts.
Guess it depends on how you plan to drive it. I drive my BB like I stole it but when I get in my 400i auto I drive like an old man with a walker.
Replacing EVERY relay is a good idea man. Go with the new TRX tyres. Al has them on his car and they look excellent and the car drove great too. Especially at high speed! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Still thinking about it! BTW, I notice that Al doesn't have the rear mufflers on - how does it sound?
Yes XWX's. Well worth the $2500 though in my opinion. It had a mixture of Goodyear & Bridgestone on it when I got it.
No worries Al, let me know when you are home and I will send the hard drive out to you so you can have all the pics from the weekend. +400i.
Thanks Pap. I'm back home again. Back at work again. Pics from the weekend would be great. Cheers, Al
They are 15" rims. Old tyres were 225/60/15's & I couldn't get over the speed hump at the local servo without scraping. Now running the 215/70VR15 XWX's & have no issues plus the speedo is almost spot on now.
Great to hear you are home! Work! Urrggh, I just finished working 4 night shifts. Days off now but. Hehe I will be in touch asap mate.
