Can someone help me with this color - I am going to purchase a 2008 F430 this week; there are 2 different cars I am looking at - - the exteriors are NERO Black and the other is Metalic Black-

Which one do I want? Can someone explain which car is more desired?

I would go with Nero, Metallic can come of a graphite color in my eye.

One is a regular glossy color, while the other has a metal flake texture to it. The metallic is much harder to retouch perfectly, but ultimately looks better IMO. Both of my last two cars have been metallic (Anthracite on an XK8, metallic black on our C350)

In low light levels, metallic will look like ordinary black. In the sun you can see the "texture" of the paint.

Gloss black is probably the hardest color to take care of within the entire color spectrum. It absorbs light and makes any flaw glaring and obvious.

Go straight black. It looks so much better.

My 308 is nero matallic and it just doesn't look as good as the pure black color to me.

Correct color names would be Nero vs Nero Daytona (Metallic)

Here's a shot of Nero Daytona on a friends 07' Spyder.

It's a difficult color to photograph (especially in dark garage) but you get the picture - no pun intended. Nero Daytona really brings out the lines in the car, while Nero hides them more. Also, Nero Daytona is more forgiving IMO to the elements. I personally prefer Nero Daytona, which is harder to come by as well.

Last track day someone brought their new 599 in black. I thought it looked a little boring and flat. Nero Daytona has just got a little more kick to it and a little less common. My 599 is nero daytona with some subtle dark browns in it. Color code #508.

I love black cars, but they are pretty much impossible to maintain unless you just keep it as a show car.

My 328 is nero metallico. It is much more forgiving in terms of swirl marks, etc. As someone else posted, it is a rarer color, and most of us "discovered" it while looking for plain nero.

In shade, it looks black. In bright direct sunlight, graphite.

I disagree. I think your car looks better than you think it does :):).

I was amazed when I saw - granted a pristine version - 328 nero metalic at Motorcars International. Very nice and really not just black.

If it was this one, then yes, that was a hell of a car:

I guess it's because I have one. Even when I have mine detailed by a pro I still get disappointed when I see a shined up regular black one.

It's just a personal taste thing

Went through this when ordering my 599. Ultimately chose Nero (glossy black) over Nero Daytona (metallic black.) Just a matter of opinion but I thought the flake was too heavy in the metallic black; the glossy was just more pure and, IMHO, rich looking.

    Either will look great.

You're not going to get the "blinded by a mirror" gloss of a perfectly detailed black car, but you're also spared the agony of counting the swirl marks every time the sun comes out.

I had plain black on my Porsche before the Ferrari, and frankly the fragile nature of the black finish was one of the reasons I sold it.
