It’s saying my electronic key is not detected… is there a trick to bypass this if my battery is dead in the fob? Something to do with the key cover thing on steering column? I see a start/stop button under that cover… help? Anyone thank you

The nice part about a lot of this is that it can be an easy fix in many cases....yet it puts you to the test

I kinda do-- I just Amazon'ed a pack of 4 for like $6.56 but thankfully, I had some CapitalOne rewards of $1.72 and I used those...so that helped

Wasn’t about replacing battery- was about how to start with fob dead so I could get home — but ya, was an easy replacement and all is good.

Thanks viperjoe for that shot of the manual- interesting about what that side start button does and holding the key upright etc

My 488 spider is giving the “key fob not detected” alert and will not start. Any tips on what this issue might be? I replaced the battery in the fob with no changes. Thanks in advance.

Did you try the process viperjoe posted with the column start button? I did and it worked perfectly.

Unfortunately, my car doesn’t have that cover to remove on the steering column.

Any other ideas are openly welcomed.

I found just forward of the key fob holder there’s an emergency start/stop button. According to another thread I’ve read that should bypass the fob and manually start the car, but I’m getting nothing.

when I press the start/stop button on the wheel my dash lights aren’t even turning on. I’ve triple checked the cars start battery is 100% full and the fob has a new battery as well.

    I’m beyond stumped.

This is what happened to me few days ago with my 488GTB ‘17, and made me sign up to the forum to find an answer but couldn’t!

Did you resolve it by now?

Oh ya, all I did was hold the fob upside down next to side column start button or something like that. Or actually pressed start on steering wheel with the fob itself… something like that, I forget now but I’m sure it’s written in this thread. Was super easy and got me home until I could change battery.

thanks a lot, I actually tried the procedure mentioned in the manual page posted here but did not start the car for several times. Then it worked for once but kept getting the same message that electronic key is not detected!

Key fob battery changed twice and retried but not working yet.

My 2018 488 did the same. It does not have the place along side the steering column, but putting the fob on the space for it on the front center console works OK. Note that when I put a new battery in the fob the car said 'no fob detected'. I had put the replacement battery in upside down. On other key fob batteries I have replaced over the years the battery goes the other way up. Everything then worked fine.

Mine doesnt work too great unless it's in the special little fob slot. It used to work in my pocket or in the center console, but not soo much anymore.

Mine has never left the 'special little fob slot'.. The ONLY time I ever removed it was when the battery died that time.

I’d just rather not scratch it up etc in my pocket and car is either in my garage, at work, in front when out to dinner or driving… all of which, I just leave key in it.
