I hope someone can help...I am considering the purchase of a 1983 Jeep Wagoneer in what appears to be great shape. It's in Phoenix, AZ. I almost got burned on a 1970 Wagoneer in Chicago...car was a mess, but seller said it was great. Luckily, I have a friend in Chicago who is a muscle car restorer. He looked at it for me and said "RUN AWAY".

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in Phoenix. Can someone help me by directing me to someone who can inspect the car for me? I asked the owner if he would take it to a Jeep dealer for inspection and he said ok, but I don't know if he has a relationship with them. I would like an impartial individual, who knows what he/she is doing and looking for in a car, to check it out for me.

I found some PPI companies on line, but they are expensive. Well worth it for a Ferrari, but for a $6500 Jeep, I question the expense...not the need for the inspection though. I e-mailed the local Phoenix Jeep Clubs and 4X4 clubs, but have not heard back.

The Jeep would be a nice addition to my 308, and the 308 won't be jealous as they both have such different uses :)

    Thanks in advance.

Call me on Monday @ the shop. I am actually a BMW/Volvo/Mini Indep., but I worked @ Jeep dealerships for 12 years (have been a long time SJ fan....wait...an '83 wagoneer could be a VERY early AMC XJ also...) and one of my current techs is a Jeep guy.
Although I don't usually get into the other cars at the shop, I will do this one for you. Are you looking to do compression/leak down also? Or just a VERY detailed inspection/test drive of the vehicle?

Call me Monday, we'll talk. The shop is located in Chandler, AZ. Main cross streets are Chandler Blvd & McClintock (so you can give your seller an idea where I am)
