I need help from the group.

My dad passed away this summer. And he passed down his watch to me that he got from his parents for highschool graduation.

The watch has been with him ever since surviving the war in Vietnam, daily wear for 50 years.

He let me wear it to my senior prom way back when.

I do not know much information about the model and would like it to be restored with the correct band, have the crystal replaced and face cleaned.

Can anyone tell me more information? Is there a vintage Longines restorer that could help me. It means a lot to me obviously. Is this a mechanical wind watch or automatic movement?

Says 14k gold apex on the back.

This one may actually be from the 50's but we haven't opened the case to see any internal markings...

First of all, do not wind it up, as running the movement without a service can damage it.
The best restorations are done by the factory.
    Contact them online for advice.
It can be manual, as it usually stated " automatic" on the dial if they had an automatic movement, but not always.
Longines was a brand of much higher recognition and quality than it is today..
Rated above or maybe similar to Omega, higher than Rolex.

14 carat gold case made for Longines by a US company called Apex.
To avoid some importation taxes and such they shipped in Longines movements and dials and cased them in US made cases.

If you remove the case back and take a pic where the markings show I can help you give it an approximal date.

As it is your father's watch and you intend to keep it, I second DrJan's advice.

    Regards,

Thank you all so much for the help. I also received several pm's.

I will contact the factory to see what is available and go from there. I'll share the results back here with a before / after.
