I just got an ELM 327 WiFi OBDII scanner but cannot get a connection to OBD Fusion app on my iPad. I’ve tried all sorts of passwords I found on the web (the ELM online manual says to use 1234 but that doesn’t work) neither does 6789 — in all cases for a 4 digit password the CONNECT button is grayed out so 4 digits are not correct for a password. I even tried setting the static IP address to 192.168.0.10 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 which the app help section advises -- but that doesn’t work either.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Alan

    Use Torque instead.

I believe it's an app. I just purchased the same ELM327 unit in the link and will follow the steps in the review to see if I can make it work.

Here's what the review says for setup:

    1) Plug it in to ODB2 port under your dash and set the car key to the ON position (don't have to start the engine) to read more data (wifi should work even off though)
    2) Find the ELM wireless network on your iphone (settings - wifi) - "CLKDevices" or "WiFi-ODBii" or similar and press connect
    3) In iphone wifi settings change from DHCP to static
IP 192.168.0.5 (any ip other than .10 should work)
    Subnet 255.255.255.0
Router 192.168.0.10 (you can probably leave this blank actually)
    4) Get an app - I didn't research much and mainly just want this as a code reader and used Engine Link - (Torque Pro, Rev2 and many others should work too)
    5) In your app connect to "192.168.0.10" and "port 35000"
    6) Mine sort of connected (got a green light in app) but didn't get live data - I disconnected the wifi, turned the key to off and back on (and maybe replugged the ELM back into OBD2 port?) and it started working, stayed connected and I could pull CELs (trouble codes) and fuel/ live rpm when I started car etc etc.

Wifi Range is short - make sure your iphone is not reverting back to 4G or your home's wifi autojoin network if you are having problems.

Torque is far superior to anything on the Apple side of things but Torque wont work on IOS. There are some good ones on IOS but I know several people who kept a Android phone just for Torque, you can have a dedicated Android phone with no service contract just for Torque. I had it on my Android phoen and was surprised when I moved to a iPhone that it was not available.

Can this technology check the history of the car as well? Say your going to purchase a 360 can you check what life the car has had by plugging in the device? I.E driven hard everywhere by checking the RPM history?

It says set the IP address to anything other than .10 yet in the app it says to connect to .10. That seems to be contradictory.

I'll try 12345678 as the password. If I use the password do I still have to set a static IP address?

It is correct, you want to set your phone/device to anything but .10 because the ELM327 itself is .10 -- and they cannot have the same address.

At least that is the way i interpreted the instructions. :)

I'm using OBD Fusion. Have not had chance to look at all of the options yet -- I just wanted to make sure the scanner was working. It did let me set up the vehicle information such as make, model, year, number of cylinders, capacity and some others that I don't have values for such as thermal efficiency. It does have the ability to log data which may be useful for diagnosing. Only $10.
