A friend of mine had it done through this guy:

    http://www.maloneyvision.com/bios/maloney_cv.html

Check out that resume - blows anything I've ever seen out of the water.

I'm thinking of getting LASIK myself. I'll be interested to hear other suggestions.

PM spEYEdr. He may be able to help you out.

By the way, 2-3 weeks out isn't actually bad. I'd rather wait than have a doctor who can do it the next day.

Maloney has a stellar reputation, but also look into Dr. Peter Cornell. He's on Bedford in Beverly Hills and is also one of the better eye surgeons in the region.

Robert Maloney is my partner. He does LASIK on Tues & Thurs and I do LASIK on Mon, Wed, & Fri.

Many competent LASIK surgeons in LA -- bottom line is: LASIK surgery is like Ferrari Service, you get what you pay for.

Good luck and do your homework.

darth -- no, Andrew has no affiliation with our surgery center, he fixes cars, I fix eyes.

Peter Cornell is a good friend, as is his partner, Stuart Stoll.

    Both are good surgeons.

I've known Peter for 10+ years, and I went to Stuart's bachelor party a few months ago... though I don't remember much of that!

F-chat/UCLA discount? :) Seriously though, I am looking to get it done. What are the requirements? I seem to remember that you have to have a stable perscription for at least a year? I've only had my eyes checked once and that was at least 5 years ago.

We do offer certain discounts, and in fact, we're both still UCLA professors. See the website for more info.

Call us and set up an initial consultation -- it's free and we'll explain everything to you. 310-208-3937. Also, check out other surgeons on the westside. (Dr John Hofbauer in BH, Dr Stuart Stoll (BH), Dr Peter Cornell (BH), Dr Arthur Benjamin (West Hollywood) are all good guys). I think that we're the best, but we're not the only game in town.

    Bottom line for LASIK:

    (1) if the only tool you have is a hammer, then everything looks like a nail. If the place does only LASIK, then are you sure that LASIK is the best procedure for your eyes? We turn down, or recommend a different procedure for about 20% of patients who want LASIK.

    (2) as with Ferraris, you get what you pay for. discount eye surgery is like a discount parachute. I can buy an older generation laser for $10k and then offer LASIK for cheap. But the newest and best ones cost $550k and you need two of them for all-laser LASIK -- the only way to fly. (intralase for the flap, then the excimer laser for the correction). That's > $1M in lasers. The per patient royalties/fees to be paid to the laser companies total more than $1000.

    (3) it's purely elective. if you have any doubts, just wait -- use glasses or contacts and defer the surgery. Do your homework and check out multiple surgeons. These are your eyes. You only get 2.

I know it's out of your area, but Dr. Tumo at The Laser Eye Center (TLC) in Newport Beach is the best. He did my husband and my father-in-law, and has done many celebs including Tiger Woods. He is one of the best LASIK doctors in the Country.

Tom Tooma is also a good friend and a good surgeon.

He didn't do Tiger Woods, however. The TLC chain of LASIK centers uses Tiger Woods as their paid celebrity spokesperson. Mark Whitten MD, who works at the TLC center in Wash DC, did Tiger Woods' eyes.

No, I'm not. He did my eyes four years ago. Just had a check-up two weeks ago: 20/15, uncorrected in each eye (this is better than 20/20 if you're unfamiliar). Not bad considering I couldn't even read the big E at the top of the chart prior to surgery!
