This is now slapstick comedy.
Maybe this is the same race --just continued! You gotta love the guy with the sledgehammer trying to beat the body from a crinkled mess-- only in Nascar! I'd like to see F1 try that one!
I was a little optimistic. This is what happens when you take the risk out of racing. Total embarrassment for NASCAR.
That's my thought, as well......it taints anybody who races or is a fan. The NASCAR 'formula' is toxic.
I caught the race off an on. They said there were 101K people in the stands? That can't be right. A good SEC game draws close to that and Daytona used to have seating for a lot more than that. Attendance has declined that much? I still love the start and lap two when they come by at full boil. I've tried to learn to like stages but I don't. Is there any NASCAR race that doesn't involve a restart with a couple of laps to go? I like the cars, I like the access and I like the driving but the crashes and format taint it. Gibbs wins 1.2.3...=WWE.
Daytona is the Super Bowl of NASCAR, so attendance is always up. After all it’s a week long social event. Probably have more rule changes before the next race In F1 you can pretty much figure out the winner or top 3 from the start. I was shocked when Trevor Blayne won Daytona a few years back, pretty sure he was as shocked as I was. Denny has always done well on plate tracks, calm in the chaos.
their $400mm "Daytona Rising" remodel a few years included removing about 65,000 seats. so capacity is now 101k. a bit of sleight of hand, NASCAR-style.
Painting all the seat backs different colors also increases attendance At least it appears that way when you are watching it on TV.
I was surprised to see that all the seats on the back stretch have been removed. I havn't been for 10 years though. The different colour of the seats makes the place look full when it isn't. Good for the TV cameras. It was definitely sold out though on the day of the 500, the other races the crowd was pretty sparse, maybe only 10-15 percent full. I was really pleased how well the free parking system worked, the organisers were really on their game and Sunday we were back at our hotel in Daytona Beach in 55 minutes from seat in stands to hotel room. Fantastic organisation. We scalped every day as we hadn't bought tickets in advance. For information we paid $60 for two (including two fanzone tix) for Thursday $40 for two for Friday night truck race $60 for two for Saturday night $200 for two for Sunday. All were great seats up high. All bought from different scalpers/fans.
