Guess I'd have to see it for myself but when reading that even the drivers and teams don't understand it, maybe things have been overthought a bit. BHW
Reading about 'dega, or tracks in general? There really is no good qualifying format for the plate tracks, even single car qualifying will mostly be determined by the wind at a given moment when a car is out there.
twin 150's seems to work seriously, if NASCAR is looking for better (any?) ratings out of qualifying on TV, they need to be doing heat races. a format like this would be awesome: 3 races, each 50 laps/50 miles whatever comes first. split the top 35 (guaranteed cars) into two groups based on alternating practice times (so 1/3/5 fastest in one group, 2/4/6 fastest in the other group). those fields set inside and outside rows respectively. third race is everyone outside the top 35 (non-guaranteed starters), they will set the field positions 36-43, based on the top 7 finishers in the race. I guarantee all of a sudden you'll see more than 43 entrants at each race...and a qualifying show worth watching.
After the 'dega plate qualifying earlier this year, Jr mentioned he'd like to see heat races. Its definitely the way to go for plate tracks, aside from torn up cars.
the chase will begin to be exposed to all (even those wanting to believe) as a total joke and failure. there will be controversy I am sure. btw....let's see if harvick and stewart push danica to a win today? I bet a dollar the plan is in place!!
yes and looking like she has a FAST car!! it would pain me to see her win but based on the fact that they have nothing to lose here and harvick in advancing...there is no bigger result that to have her win. there are three very fast cars who with team orders can push her to a win. this is a fairly simple formulaic equation that even she can follow.
debris...lol...I really don't know why I even watch this. joey and brad had just linked up...and a tin potato chip bag is called debris and a yellow. BSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
let's be provocative...if you are an shr racer...let's say kurt busch. you have bad brad in your sights. if you race brad hard and accidently turn him around thus taking him out of the chase...is that good for your chase teammate kevin harvick? well...harvick has an easier run to the championship w/o bad to contend with. this format sucks....
yep. and by my calculations, Newman and Kenseth are still eligible to win the championship with zero wins
So, let me get this right... There are guys who have multiple wins who are eliminated from the "Chase"? And, there are guys who have no wins at all who are in? NASCAR: Be careful what you wish for | News | Motorsport.com BHW
it's OK, the ratings are..... .....oh wait. NASCAR's new elimination format for Chase isn't faring well on TV - LA Times
Doesn't surprise me in the least. Imagine being in Jeff Gordon's shoes about now. IMS, wasn't Gordon the points leader through most of the season? Now, he's effectively out of the championship. Makes you wonder which of these guys who's gotten the short end of the straw will be speaking up when it's all said and done. BHW
here, direct from the horse's mouth (i.e. the NASCAR website), are the drivers left with a chance. Logano, with his 5 wins, leads the way. but the next four drivers in the standings don't have 5 wins combined! Gordon (who is having what might be his last great season) and Brad "where's my black hat" Keselowski trail the pack, with a combined 10 wins! it is fascinating that for a "winning is what matters" championship format, as usual consistent competence is what's getting it done. that sound you hear are slide rules being pulled from the metal desks in the fake wood paneled offices in Daytonner Beach... Sat down to watch the last thirty laps after working in the garage, saw the phantom tin foil debris caution, got off the couch and went back into the garage. I wonder what the percentage of races end with a green-white-checker scenario? WWF of racing!!
