1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S N.A.R.T. Spider by Scaglietti | Monterey 2013 | RM AUCTIONS Oh dear and this car has been owned by a single person since 1968, Eddie Smith. Given how rare one shows for sale, its good looks and one-time ownership you can barely make an estimate on it but I would be mildy surprised if 10709 won't fetch $10m, (hammer or +comm.) There are quite a few more prancing horses for sale at Monterey 16.17. August (love the 400SA) but the Nart Spider is certainly the highlight.
It is just one of several highlights, just wait and see. There's more to come. And besides RM there is also two nights of Gooding auctions in Pebble Beach, plus all the others such as Bonhams on Friday, Russo & Steele, Mecum, etc. Marcel Massini
Yes, auction houses tend to add some 'star' lots in the last minute. Gooding did this last year with a collection they managed to secure including a alloy 250 SWB California spyder....
For this type of darling car, I think your estimate might be right on or more likely, a little light. It´s being brought to market in a good way, and you know what they say. It only takes two. And if you want it, when will the next time be? It is most definitely a lovely dream car.
Was thinking about 2987GT when you wrote SWB, the other two (Competizioni) are certainly not for sale. I know that logic cannot be applied here but a NART Spider should be on par with an SWB Cali. Well if a steel LWB can sell for $8.25m (Gooding Scottsdale '13) and a steel SWB run-of-the-mill-Bueller can sell for $8.6m (RM Monterey '12)...gonna be exciting. Yeah what open roads said, you don't know when the next time will come. Like that Rubens painting "Massacre of the Innocents".
I see in the Octane Magazine a 250 GT by Vignale one off Paris Show car is also going to be auctioned.
I assume you mean 250 Europa (not a GT!) Coupé Vignale Chassis #0313 EU to be auctioned by Bonhams at Quail. Marcel Massini
Yes, that was the one I meant. To my eyes quite a pretty car from a styling point of view even considering the colour.
0313 EU: A total one-off, painstakingly restored by world's leading Vignale expert in Switzerland. Ready to win at Pebble Beach. Colors are absolutely original: Lechleroid Tabacco 1039 with eggplant roof (Lechleroid Bruno Siena 1117). Cover car and color featured in "Cavallino" magazine, issue #194, see also issue #195. Marcel Massini
I have seen the car personally in Zurich a few months ago. Surely one of the most beautiful color combinations I have ever seen on a car.....
Here it is (0313 EU), available from Bonhams at Quail Lodge. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
Marcel, is that a garage in the background? I sure would like my garage to look like that. Beautiful!
Most Vignales don't do anything for me. Actually they're rather hideous, the front looks almost deformed on 340 Mexico and 250/375's. Pininfarina had a much better hand, at least most of the time.
Petrolicious insight into 10709. Great watch. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaZB14xiHg8&list=TLLYh93SOBN3s]This Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S Spider Is One of Ten - YouTube[/ame]
