Attached is an early picture of my 74 365GT4/2+2. I am 3 1/2 years into a ground up resto. Not many people see these cars standing "proud". Bare metal refinish. After the car was stripped metal work complete releaded and fared the chassis cured in an unheated hangar for a year. Hopefully shrinkage will not be a problem. When I got the car it was resale red originally argento. Going back to argento. Engine is being rebuilt. Interior is almost complete. Should be silver again within the next two weeks. If you want to learn patience restore an old V12 Ferrari. FYI as a note the body panels were all leaded filed, primed and then sanded and primed and sanded and on and on. Originally these cars have sooo much primer from the factory thick and kind of a cream color. Well anyway hope you enjoy. Hope to hear it run again in 08'

    Happy New Year

    Rick,

Very cool! Don't quit now.. you have to have more photos you can post. What do you mean by the interior is almost complete? Are you having it redone with new leather? What color?

Yes it is a carbed 5 speed. The interior is being "duplicated in lipstick red Bridge of Weir Scottish Hides. Closest I could find to the correct grain. Connolly grains were too smooth. Original interior was black leather. I know it's not the original color, but it was an option. in these cars the leather is wrapped in leather Ha Ha. So far Eight hides to do seats and panels. My interior guy likes the job , but it is meticulous and he can only work on it when he can't be interupted.....takes forever. The console dash and rear shelf will remain black as correct. Carpets will be red wilton wool. I will post more pics. I've been keeping a decent photo journal except I didn't take many pics of the car befor I started.

I think there was a handful of automatic 365s, done in the USA, and Ferrari took on the concept for the 400.

The color combination sounds awsome! When you find the time to post some more pictures don't forget to include some of the new leather.

What a great project, and great choices for color. My own 308 GTB is silver with red interior; it's my favorite combination!

Kudos for doing such an extensive restoration project! Keep the pictures coming as you move forward!

    Rick,

I saw your engine (I'm pretty sure the one I saw was yours) in Francois' shop on Friday - it is back together and looking very nice!

For extra points, can anyone tell me what type of car is in front of the engine and what type of car is behind it? :)

    Regards,

    Art S.

ATS was a beautiful Italian project that never got many cars on the road. Am I correct ?

    No, not an ATS either.

The car in the foreground of the picture is a Superfast (series 2 as I recall) and the car in the background is a California Spider (the one that was rescued from a junkyard down south - I think the serial is 1411). Anyway, I just wanted to show that Rick's engine is in very good company!

    Art S.

Thanks for this thread. I've sometimes daydream about doing a ground up restoration. I'll be watching this thread closely and vicariously experiencing restoration through it!
