I recently bought a Ferrari, and it came with a Nakamichi TD-700 tape player. I understand that all the stereos prior to 1996 were installed by the dealer or the owner. So it is safe to think that several Ferraris from the 80's and early 90's came with this stereo.
I am looking for the owner manual. It would be cool if I can get copies of one of the manuals.

    Thanks.

I think you may have misunderstood. All Ferraris prior to 1996 DOES NOT come with stereos, they are however, wired for stereos from the factory with speakers. Ferrari left it up to the owners to decide if and what stereos to put into the cars. So, I am a little confused about your post, what makes you think that several Ferraris would have the same stereo as you do? Anyway, I think your best bet may be contacting Nakamichi directly, have you tried their website to see if the manual is avaliable on-line for download?

What do you want to know about the nak head unit? Do you want to remove it and replace it with something else? Upgrade to cd? etc. Naks are great hu's. What do you want to know in the manual?

I am not touching that stereo. It is great, one of the best tape players ever made, so i hear.
I want to know how to program the damn clock. I already tried everything I can think of, and nothing seams to work.

I have seen several pictures of cars from that era with that unit. That is why I assumed that either a dealer installed several of them or this stereo was popular at the time and several owners installed tham on their cars.

I already contacted Nakamichi, but the stereo hasn't been made for 15 years or so.
I contacted another company that seams to have owner manuals for every high end sound system.

The company's original claim to fame was a very high-end cassette playback deck that was considered respectable in the 70's, if memory serves. I didn't know cassette was still a viable format. I do know that 8 track has developed a cult following, so i suppose the same could be true for cassette. There were some early cars- not necessarily ferraris, that were installed with turntables. Go figure. I don't even listen to the box in the car. But, if your Nak is period, keep it.

The Nakamichi "Dragon"!! It was supposed to be the best tape deck ever made. There are surely some that would argue the point though.

The really cool ones were the RX series where the machine would eject the tape, turn it around and put it back in to play the other side. This was supposed to keep the tape aligned with the heads better than flipping the heads themselves.

I used to own only Nakamichi top of the line cassette decks in my cars, and they were amazing! Tapes just sounded so "fat" and crisp... THis was becaused they had the azimuth control for the tape head. Also owned the Dragon for home use which cost close to $3,000 in the 80's.

Keep the nak in there, but I know they were def. not stock from the factory!

Yes, they were just about THE cassette deck. I still have my ZX-7 I bought overseas in '83. Don't use it though, use a mini-disk for recording from records.

Cassettes are way out of date. My lotus came with a cassette that the original owner told me he turned it on about 4 times in the last 10 years. That came right out.

Theres a cassette deck in my car. What I wanted was an original or replica face plate. Posted once, someone replied and said the original faceplates were just plain plastic; no Ferrari name or prancing horse, etc. A suggestion was offered to cut out a pice of plastic and have a logo glued on. I guess it would work, I'm just leaving the deck in for now. Never listen to it, listen to the engine.

Used to be a cassette deck in my Pantera. Hall did a faceplate replica that I bought.

I would be interested in the ZX-7 if you're looking to give it a new home.

How the heck do you even dig up a ten year thread like this? I had a TD 700 back in the day. It was suppose to be the best thing going back then.
