A nice lady at Lyle Tanner enterprises told me that a shade of Revlon nail polish is identical to rosso corsa. I picked up a bottle of Revlon Red enamel today and will do some tests tomorrow. In the bottle at least, it looks absolutely the same.

Watching this thread with great interest. Please keep us posted. How funny would it be if Revlon suddenly got a rush order for Nail Polish #X...from a bunch of guys. :D

Wow. Indeed they do--along with color codes and official paint names. Neato. Good post!

I've purchased several paint pens from PaintScratch, and they work well at first. But they dry up after a couple of months, and the spring-loaded, push-to-feed-paint felt tip kind of sticks and refuses to feed paint after this time. I'm actually happier with the small bottle of touch-up paint I got from my local high-end body shop. It stays fresh for a long time.

Also, when you do the touch-up, consider using a product called Langka, from www.langka.com. I heard of this in the FCA news bulletin. Basically, it's a polish that removes excess touch-up paint. Their recommendation is to glob on the paint to fill the chip, then buff it out with their product, using a credit-card-sized piece of plastic covered in a tightly woven fabric, like an old oxford-cloth shirt. Their product is a little pricy, but I've tried it with good results. You could probably find something cheaper in a good polish, but this product works well.

If you get to Langka's site with this link, and you end up making a purchase, they'll make a donation to the Ferrari Club.

A lot of the products on the Langka site are for clear coat. As far as I know, 328s at least were not clear coated. Can anyone confirm?

Not sure about some of the metalic paints, I think they have a clear coat, but all of the normal paint does not have a clear coat.

BTW, you can get an excellent match using Ford Pickup red touchup paint available at just about any store. I got mine at Walmart. I forget the exact model years, but it was used for over a decade.

I tried the Revlon Red on a couple partially-hidden spots today. It appears to be a near exact match, but it is very thick and hard to get on even in very small amounts without leaving a lump. I'm going to thin it a bit and see how it works.

Testor model paint (enamel) is widely available. The red is a near match and with a careful tinting using a small amount of black I was able to get a perfect match for my 1986 328. The price is about $1 a bottle so you can afford to experiment!

Forget the nail polish........if you go to Walmart, Pep Boys etc. and pick up Dupli Color's Scratch Fix 2in1, TY 01560, Super Red II 3E5 Toyota, I understand it's an exact match to Rossa Corsa. It matched my red calipers perfectly. It's got a great pen applicator too. There is a silver for wheels that I plan to pick up that is a match.

    Dear Ferraristi,

I don't understand? Why not just get the Rosso Corsa Touch-up paint stick from the Ferrari Dealer. It has the a built-in brush and costs about $ 15. It will actually last a for some time. I just add a bit of lacquer thinner if it starts getting a bit thick.

    Dave,

It's just the basic Revlon Red. I didn't think touch-up sticks were available from Ferrari and Tanner said they hadn't been able to get any.

After reading this thread about the alternatives, I'm not sure I'll stay with the nail polish for the couple of more visible spots I want to treat.

Your dealer sells touch-up paint? Ferrari of San Francisco doesn't sell it at all, amazingly enough. I thought it must be a "Ferrari thing". I had to take my paint code to a bodyshop and have them mix up a batch.

IMHO, if you have an older Ferrari, meaning any car using a single stage paint system. The only way you are going to exactly match the color of paint that is on your Ferrari Today, is by having a multi-angle digital reading taken from your car.
Clean up your paint, and head to your local pro auto-paint store, "some NAPA and O'Reilly auto stores have them inside", and have them perform the multi-angle readings, and then computer match the color your car is today after X years of sun and weather fade.
Not what color the paint code says your car was painted say 17 years ago.
Have them mix up how much you think you will need.
    It's that simple.
Do you really want to be using nail polish, or tinting model paint to touch up your Ferrari?

    Dear Ferraristi,

My local dealer is Central Florida Ferrari in Orlando. Their number is 407 667 4300. Ask for Doug. He is the parts manager. Please don't say I sent you, he'll take away my parts discount. :)

Do you know what is a good match for the silver on 328 wheels?
