The main thing when painting aluminium is that you do need to first spray an etching primer which etches into the aluminium and gives a base for normal primer to be applied, if not you may find that normal primer will just flake off. Normal top coats can then be applied with no problems.

Unfortunatley I will have to remove the engine to change the cambelt before it goes back onto the road so will take me a little longer but thats going to be another story.

Going to do this yourself? Wow. That needs to be documented. So when you come to California, you're going to do my cam belts too? LOL

I have every intention of posting pics of cambelt change when the time comes and the fact that I am doing it myself is not a problem as I have lost count of the number of cambelt changes I have done over the last 40yrs on different vehicles. To me personally an engine whether it be a V8 Ferrari or 4cyl Ford is just an engine with a cambelt that requires changing so even though it will be my first Ferrari cambelt change at the moment I am not worried. The main problem will be having no lift/ramp to have the car high enough in the air to remove the engine but I am working on that at the moment. I have a plan where the car will be high enough and I will then fabricate a bogie on 4 wheels which the complete rear subframe will rest on and be pulled away from the car, hopfully.

Almost there. Undercoated the latts during the week and topcoated them yesterday, and fitted them to the bonnet today. Almost done and looking quite good. So tomorrow I will fit the side repeater lens which arrived from Eurospares today and all that will be left is the bonnet badge which I am going to have my wife present with me and we shall fit it together. The final pics of that will be taken tomorrow.

    Nino,

I have been following this thread since September but have yet to post. The work you have done over the past five months is absolutely incredible and inspiring.

My hat is off to you for the incredible job. Now go drive that gift from your wife.

Nino, I gotta' tell you - - that second to last sentence of your post, was and is, an honest indication of just how valid it would be to call you not only a true artist, but an equally true romantic, as well !!!

You & your wife have been blessed at many levels - - not to mention, how lucky that Mondial got !! :):)

    Cheers mate,

    Hank

It was a beautiful day with the sunshine here in the UK today so we made our way early to my mother's house to put the finishing touches to the Mondial. As promised Christine put the Ferrari badge on the bonnet to signify the end of the project. In some ways I feel sad that it has come to an end but in other ways I am very pleased with the outcome and now own a very nice Ferrari for Christine and myself to enjoy. Many thanks to all who have followed this project from the start and contributed with their posts and appreciation of my work. With the bodywork now completed I will need to change the cambelt but that's as they say is another story. Many thanks again.

    Nino.
