For Sale My Jaguar XJS V12 Coupe on BaT - No Reserve

While certainly very different to a V12 from Maranello, perhaps some of you might be interested in adding my 1984 Jag XJS coupe to your collection via Bring a Trailer.

I purchased this car in Jan 2018 in central FL from the prior owner who acquired it in July 2016. According to the PO and the Jaguar specialist who had worked on the car, the history, which seems supported by the Carfax, is as follows.

The XJS had been a lifelong NY state car, in the suburbs north of NYC. It belonged to one family from new. The family matriarch who owned the car aged and drove the car less and less – one can see on the Carfax that it only accumulated ~4000 miles from 1999 through 2017. On her passing, the car was offered for sale as a non-runner and the PO purchased it and brought it to Jaguar specialist International Motor Car Repair in Hopewell Junction, NY un early 2017. The vehicle was mechanically sorted by International Motor with extensive repairs and restoration, all of which are documented.

The XJS was then cosmetically restored via a bare metal re-paint in its original black color, along with reupholstering of all seating surfaces in leather, as well as installation of a new headliner and new burled walnut dash trim and door trim pieces. The PO maintains homes in NY and FL and kept the car in the latter after the repairs, and I purchased it from him in Jan.

The car has been extensively serviced within the past 18 months as well as cosmetically sorted in order to address lack of use. The car has been returned to original specifications as far as I can evaluate and as documented in the service records. The seating surfaces, headliner, and wooden interior trim have been replaced as noted. There is also an aftermarket stereo installed along with an external radio antenna.

I have service records documenting all of the repair work and restoration efforts to bring the car to good mechanical running condition and a high level of cosmetic appearance. This has all taken place since Jan 2017. Highlights include:


· New fuel pump, lines, fuel tank, sump tank, injectors and seals.

· New distributor cap, rotor, plugs, wires, coils, and starter motor.

· New front brake rotors and rebuilt rear brake rotors, new calipers, pads, and brake lines.

· Installation of good used hand-brake (emergency brake) components.

· New radiator, water pump.

· R&R transmission and mounts.

· Replacement engine management computer, temperature sensors, battery, R&R of wiring looms.

· Addressed suspension components: springs, shocks, tie-rods, control arms, bushings and ball joints.

· R&R exhaust including new pipes, seals, and gaskets.

· Replaced subframe lower plates.

· Rebuilt steering rack.

· New heater valve.

· R&R AC components and converted to R-134a.

· Rebuilt wiper motor, new windshield washer fluid reservoir.

· New 215/70-15 tires.

· Car was professionally stripped to bare metal and painted, as shown in the photos.

· The interior seating surfaces were professionally reupholstered in leather.

· The headliner was replaced.

· Wooden interior trim was replaced.

· A Sony MEXN-5100BT head unit is installed – the color display does match the interior lighting.

This XJS drives, handles, and brakes exactly as it should. The mechanical work and the cosmetic restoration totals almost $20K since last January. Other than the cruise control and the trip computer, all other features work as per design. All lighting interior and exterior work well, including the entry and instrumentation. Locks and trunk release work perfectly. I have two sets of original keys along with the original owner’s manuals in the OEM leather case. A pair of Coco mats are installed and will come with the car.

Thank you. For a No reserve auction and esp for "impulse buy" vehicles (price point <$20k or so) I think BaT is a very handy platform. As one gets above that price point and where folks are seeking greater due diligence (their own PPI etc) the 7 day timeframe can be limiting.
