How do you disable the seat belt that rides on the door track? It's annoying...and it'***** the back of my head a few times. Any simple fix? I am sure you can just unplug the fuse or connector.

Do all US TR's have those electric seat belt things? ... cabin height is already restricted... and to have that thing seems annoying...

Can't you remove them and fix the seat belt permanent? and remove the whole sliding guide mechanism as well? So glad mine doesn't have that!

    good luck!

It must have been just the 1992's that had them. My 1992 Diablo is the same thing.

Passive restraints in the US came in ~1986 so all cars either have those stupid mouse belts or an airbag after 1986. Most of the big car manu. had the $$ to research and install airbags. The small players like Ferrari, Lambo, etc. did not so they used the sliding belt b/c it was cheaper (at least I'm assuming because).

I have a US model 1986 Testarossa and have regular three way seat belts without the mouse track.

Why would you want to do this? Having only a lap belt is far less safe especially without a steering wheel air bag.

I think he means to retrofit '86 style 3 point belts and just remember to use them on his own like an intelligent person when he gets in the car.

Having said (and its been awhile since I drove a mousketteer car) can't you just unclip the shoulder part from the thing and then hook it up by yourself after the cycle?

I would just like to keep the seat belt lack in one place and just put it on myself. I don't like to wait for the seat belt tracks to come foward.

I believe the third brake light was the new requirement in the US in 1986. The passive restraint came as a requirement in 1990. So any model year 1990 and later would have that. Airbags were required starting in 1996 I think (might have been 1995), so the mouse belts went away then. I would think you could disconnect the whole system and fit up some regular belts. You might have to trick a sensor so the car thinks the auto belts are still working.

I figure you could just unplug the motor.

    Dear Ferraristi,

I have a 91 Testarossa and have those annoying belts. Most car manufacturers had those belts from the late 80's to the early 90's. I think ( please don't quote me) the 88 Testarossa was the first year to have the belts. It ( again please don't quote me) continued to the 94 512 TR. I have seen a 94 512 TR without the belts. I don't know if the owner did it himself or it was factory. ( fellow concours buddy )

There has been many posts over time on this issue. I don't think it's very easy to remove....electronically. I think some module ties into the ECU. I personally don't like them myself. I have had the recall done about 5 years ago. Mine work very well with no problems. ( daily driver )

I do know of someone who took the original 3 point mounts in the car and had a harness bar mounted in. ( in full leather ) He then had racing seatbelts put in.

The belts do correspond to the airbag issue. On a Lamborghini Diablo, you have the mouse belts from 91- 97. I have a 97.5 Diablo Roadster as well. This car has dual airbags and no mouse belts.

The "motor-mouse" seat belts started in the TR series in 1987.

I dont mind the mouse belts in the TR, because they seem to work pretty good, and the angle that they travel is correct, also they zip tight when complete. On the other hand the ones on the Diablo suck............there always getting twisted and turned the wrong way

Love the TR. Might be my next F car. But, I sure don't like the mouse belts.

My 87 has "regular", manual, three point belts installed and the mouser has been disabled. I believe if you take a look behind the leather interior cover, above/behind and to the left of your head (driver), there is a mounting point from the factory hidden behind the interior trim to attach the manual belts.......Good luck....Kerry

Kerry is spot-on. TRs with the motorized seat belts DO have the proper attaching points for a manual system. BUT the interior panels surrounding the motorized system components are quite different than those for a manual system, making a clean-proper looking conversion to manual belts difficult unless you have the correct pieces.
