This thread is all about nothing more than miscommunication. It is unfortunate for both parties and could be avoided by trying to understand each other's wants and needs before bringing the car to his shop. And most times it is best to have these wants and needs in writing to avoid this from happening. I had some touch up work done last spring and made sure I was clear as to my wishes (in material vendors) and time constraints before bringing my vehicle to the shop. In all it ended up being a very positive experience.

I agree with the posters above that this **began** as a simple miscommunication between the OP and Tony.

BUT, it **progressed** into a public attempt at character assassination. The OP is obviously "that guy," and you can see from his responses here that he will never back down - probably because his ego is too fragile.

All we can do is call him out for being a jerk, which I think this thread has accomplished.

You know, John, I've been doing some homework on you... and unsurprisingly, a number of things don't add up. I'm not sure this is the place for certain things to be divulged, but suffice it to say, you activities and your business dealings are fairly easy to track. But what good will it do, to this community, to discredit you? Not much, other than some personal satisfaction... but that's not enough for me to break my code.

But you know what I will do? Hold you accountable. You say that you "wanted a Tony" to do your work, and that you do not "need a Tony". It's quoted above, your words.

Prove to us that you will be performing your own diagnostics and repairing your own transmission issues on your 360. Document your work for all of us to see, and show us how you've "worked on exotics all your life" and "you don't need a Tony". Afterall, that failing bearing and those oil leaks aren't going to fix themselves. And based on all those metal shavings in the filter... I'd think you'd like to get that taken care of pretty soon.

My guess? We are going to see a silver 360 spider with transmission issues from New Hampshire for sale sometime this spring. Maybe I'm wrong, but boy....that ad is going to get a lot of attention from this crowd if it pops up.

It's funny how some cars in this community become untouchable and just don't sell when enough people know their history... but hey, what do they say about suckers? I bet you're counting on one. Time will tell.

Your move, John. Show us you don't need us.

Why on earth would I bother posting about replacing the transmission? To make you happy? I do not need your approval in any way shape or form. I will list the car once it's done just as I planned to do form not gelling with it right out of the gate. If you look at my earlier posts here you will see that. Thanks for taking the time to research me.

It is abundantly clear many or you are simply trying to win Tony's approval or show him you have his back. That is fine and what I expected. I am that mean man that is calling out your hero. I have thick skin and can take some abuse from folks like you. Carry on.

Been following along just for the drama……but I will say this mechanic has a sizable hit squad, and I would NEVER go within 100 feet of the place.

Nobody but the participants know even half the story, but that matters not to the hit squad. Every business has unhappy customers, the customers aren’t perfect, neither is the business. And every relationship ends at some point.

Whether the mechanic is right or wrong, in my outsider view they went beyond a more standard reply of something like “while we have a different view of how events occurred, we hope you can find a shop you can be happy with”. That and a few testimonials would have diffused the situation.

But now things have progressed to a “we know where you live” level that is WAY off the rails and shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone here.

My My My, am I hurting your feelings? You certainly seem to be taking my issue with Tony to heart. More so then one would expect. I apologize for offending or upsetting you so. I hope you can move on and be happy in life. Best wishes.

I'm sorry John, I don't understand. :) what about my last message suggested my feelings were hurt? Is English not your first language? I'm neither offended nor upset... I wished you luck in your car flipping endeavors and all the best to you, lol.

No wonder you can't communicate effectively with other grown ups. My apologies for your limitations.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck selling that car without proper documentation from a reputable shop. No hurt feelings here, just a little pity for a delicate man who can't see past his own short comings.

    Cheers buddy.

    Tony.

Gotta prove monetary damage to win in court.

Seems to me, based on your many customers' responses here, that your reputation has been admirably defended, and if anything, this thread has shown that you're great at what you do and need not try to defend that in "a Court of Law."

I don't think there is a single Ferrari owner on this site that would change their opinion of your skills based on this thread. I've never used your services, but this thread would not deter me, if I lived within your service area, from calling and getting put on your schedule.

I doubt an outsider, who might stumble on this thread courtesy of a google search would be deterred, either.

And while I understand your desire to defend yourself, I just don't think it's necessary. Customers are your best defense, and they're here in droves.

Maybe time for you to move along (after all, you're busy as hell at your shop and customers are waiting for their cars. :)) let the op get it all out of his system.

Amen ... Tony took the time out of his day last summer (without an appointment) to put my 2015 California T on his scanner to help diagnose a paddle problem I was having and did not charge me a cent. He goes out of his way for people ... which is why he met you halfway to loan you his tow hook to help you out in the first place. (I'd like to see a Ferrari dealer do either of the above examples.) Finding the car not completed in mid February when you asked for early spring delivery in New England is hardly cause for alarm. This whole thing just seems silly to me. I've had thousands of happy customers but there are always one or two you just can't agree with no matter how you try to appease them. It's when you go out of your way to cost the shop business that it gets out of hand and people get their backs up. Hope you get your car sorted elsewhere.

Tony at this point don't you think you owe a favor to the next owner of this car. Attach vin to this post and once vin gets Googled searched this whole thread will show up. Also contact CARFAX to update information about the vehicle and it's transmission issues. Since it's the only thing you both agree on. Looking at the metal shavings in the picture it's doesn't not look promising. Karma is God’s girlfriend.

    Mr Powell,

Did you get a PPI on this car? It sounds like your frustration should be with the seller. Your issue is significant and most likely involves an entire transmission rebuild, and most likely the entire clutch assembly - with this level of neglect most likely much more. These issues take time and parts can be very hard to get.

Mr Powell - Your car was in the right place to fix this, would have been tens of thousands of dollars and perhaps taken a very long time. I think you both got off easy here as the hard and expensive work is ahead with this car. If you feel ok about spending 30K to fix all this do it, if not I would sell ASAP and take your losses. I would imagine this was a very inexpensive car to buy, was the deal “to good to be true”?

Could you please provide the VIN on this car?

Let’s end this thread and best of luck to both of you.

Tony has worked on many of my cars. He is honest and always priced right. This sounds like a misunderstanding and people should not shy away from Tony.

I bought it on ebay so I did not get a ppi. In my mind I was thinking around 20-25 to do the trans but was prepared for what ever it may have ended up at. I have a used transmission coming that has a bit more miles on it but that may be a blessing. In my mind the low miles may not have been a positive thing. I have all the other things to fix its problems plus a set of fab speed headers and some nice dressing. I would not sell it in the condition it is in though I did have offers.

The VIN is ZFFYT53A530132446 I have put a few hundred miles on it and it is growing on me. Happy Easter all!

Sorry you had a bad experience, many people sell tie rods for the Ferrari's but none of them are a Ferrari part, they are a high quality aftermarket part. Ferrari never sold them separate from the rack and that is not a valid Ferrari part number. So Tony did not mislead you on that point. Sounds like poor communication that got out of hand. I have known Tony for years and he has always been honest and upfront. Sorry you had the bad experience and hope you find a shop that meets your needs.

Why don’t we end on a positive note.

I picked up my blue F12 after, wait for it…..6 months in the shop!
Car needed a new radio module - they route many signals through this box.

Why so long? Covid supply chain electronics and a made to order part. There were none in stock anywhere last year. Tony scoured the network - we ordered one early on

I was happy that Tony got me on the phone with a distributor in England who was able to explain the situation after several months of waiting

Image Unavailable, Please Login “Normally I’d not get on the phone with a retail customer but because it’s tony….”. Much appreciated.

Tony had the car coordinated with FNE to do the recall work on the car. I never asked, never expected. That alone saved me several days. Much appreciated.

In the end, I know the work was done carefully, I know Tony will call out anything else if needed.

The kicker? 35% less cost than using Ferrari of New England!!!!

I’ll go back if I need anything. Some things are perhaps better done at the dealer but most any mechanical work… Having tony do it all…

As a new Ferrari owner looking for independent shops in the area, stumbling upon this thread after being recommended Autohaus of Boston by a friend has been a shocking revelation. It blatantly exposes the shop's hostile approach to customers, deploying what another poster aptly called a "hit squad" to attack anyone with complaints. Just like that poster, I'll be steering clear of this disaster of a shop. Good luck to anyone who actually chooses to get their work done there.

The absurdity on this site. Yea sure - I’d read a post from a disgruntled customer ( for whatever reason) along with about 20 positive votes of confidence and conclude that little old Tony has organized a defense from a “squad” of happy customers who have trusted cars infinitely nicer that the OPs to Tony - and walked away happy. It’s a scandal! - Just go to Ferrari New England then . Geez. Why did your friend recommend you go there I wonder.?

I haven’t looked at this string in a while . Just popped up. While the personal stuff has no place on either side, Your conclusion is odd based on the thread.
If I get a moment I’ll ask Chat GPT to summarize and weigh in. No emotion. Should be illuminating. Till then…
