WOW. I just came back from road testing the latest ECU tune on my '07 599 F1 from @360trev that @sammyf downloaded onto the two ECUs. What an amazing transformation. If you are lucky enough to own one of these cars, you know what a sensory experience it is to drive them. What you may not not is that it can get better - a lot better. My car came to me highly optioned and with a dealer installed HGTE exhaust (no "secondary" cats). It is an "earlier" car that wasn't supposed to be eligible for the full factory HGTE package including the tuned ECUs. The car had the neck-snapping shifting which fellow owners have come to accept as a "that's how single clutch transmissions shift." Downshifts were marginally better. And oh, the CEL came on occasionally (now traced to the higher flowing exhaust). For me it was a good looking and fun car, with great sound, probably a good candidate for a manual swap. Fast forward to this evening: The third tune designed for me by trev is based on the factory HGTE tune (yes it worked on my car!), with better communication between the ECU and TCU - shift speed and rev matching is much improved. Clutch engagement is crisp. Shifts up and down are amazing and smooth, throttle response is immediate, no CELs, and one of my favorite tweaks - throttle valves always open in race mode with its associated sound and burble. If you have a 599 GTB F1 without trev's magic tune, you are missing out on a significantly improved overall driving experience. Disclaimer: I paid full retail for the tuning service, and received no financial benefit from this post. Just want to share my experience as a very satisfied 599 owner.
So very pleased to see your enjoying the fruits of my work on these cars. The sheer amount of ungratifying slop, jerk, aliasing and inherent delays present in stock firmware is frustrating if you like cars to respond instantly to your inputs. They basically had a diamond and just didn't polish it! I feel very proud to have developed the skills and fully bespoke software (all my own, even the tools to upgrade them) to enhance them in this way. I love the fact I can greatly improve the tactility and responses, the torque and the performance and make them drive EXACTLY the way an enthusiast would want them to drive. Pin sharp, accurate and full of feel. In some ways the upgrades (particularly to the shifting speeds and response in both directions, ecu and tcu combined) make talk of swapping to gated really largely redundant. Fixing down right annoying things like 'head whack' between gears makes the car much more enjoyable to drive! Unless your really a die hard gated guy the F1 system done like this really is very good! Trev
I am so glad that you went ahead with this tune. It definitely makes the came more driveable and modern in its approach. I also find just the slightest lift off when changing gears makes a big difference too. May the Horse be with you
Hi Trev, any chance you could perform this on my car which is located in Switzerland? it's a 07 regular 599 GTB. you can check it on my instagram: @theswissdriver

I will share my experience. In order to program the ecus, there is a connection inside each ecu that is not pinned out that needs to be accessed and stimulated with 12v to put the ecu in the proper mode. In addition there are specific cables that are required to read and write the program to each ecu. The options as I understood them were (2 with no downtime, 1 with downtime): 1. For me to open my ecu and rig the ability to provide power to a specific pin. I have no issues doing this and was considering this option seriously. This would still require borrowing the proper cables for the programming and a windows PC. 2. Send my ecus to be programmed. Some downtime but otherwise hassle free. 3. Since my car was a bit of an experiment we agreed for me to borrow test ecus (plus the cables) that have a switch wired to them to put them in boot mode. I tested a total of 3 or 4 programs before settling on the final version. Each one got better. The only downside of this option is the additional shipping back and forth but I was happy to do that. I understand that I may have had access to this setup because we were doing some testing in early model 599s and that this may not be available to all but it worked great for me. The second to final step is to ship my ecus to have them programmed with the agreed tune. Once I get them back I will ship the test ecus and cables back. $40 each shipment, total of 4 shipments. Hope this helps and I hope I did not over share. Again, delighted with the full experience and can’t wait to hear back in the TCU work. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I’m sure @360trev will be in touch with you on this! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
@360trev I would love to hear more about the 612 upgrade too, as per Justin’s questions and also in the UK. Thanks
hi @360trev Do you mind letting me know how much it'll cost if I ship the ECUs to you for programming? Thanks.
Hi Trev. Please pm me. This sounds like a nice upgrade to my 2007 599. Cost, where are you, etc. Thanks - Gas
hello @360trev Do you mind letting me know, what is involved and how much it'll cost, if I ship the ECUs to you for programming? I am from Germany with a 599GTB. Please let me know, too. Thank you very much !
Unfortunately for CA car guys given the latest restrictions enacted by the California Air Resources Board, any tampering of the OEM ECU, intake and exhaust equipment can result in denial of renewal for any cars' registration!
They sure waste a lot of you taxpayers' money on that crap. Even Washington state gave up on emissions testing.
Yes. CA is crazy about regulations, they love regulations, they live for regulations. Definitely staying in FL…
Nick, to this day in our little town of Camarillo 50 mi. north of LA and 50 mi. south of Sta Barbara, we're still experiencing cool temps this summer: highs of low 70's and lows of mid-to-low 50's; reasonable humidity @ 70%; normal @ 50%. That's one reason why we've chosen to sacrifice with these California legislative craziness / inanity / extra fees and have lived here for 43 yrs. Our winters usually fluctuate from low 40's (with excursions to high 30s for short periods) to high 50's. Back in 1977, National Geographic ran a survey of best climates in the world and ranked Camarillo as second only to the French Riviera! Such a climate is great for keeping my Ferrari and other Mercs in fantastic condition. No extreme heat that can peel the leather off dashboards or extreme cold / snow, so no need to put on winter tires or scrape ice off of windshields. However while living in the vicinity of Hollywood, we do have to share what Johnny Carson once described as "...like living in a bowl of granola - what ain't fruits or nuts are flakes!"
Jose. I love California, I really do. Great weather and just so many interesting things to see and do. But I have school-aged kids so family considerations take priority. We are fortunate to live in a place with low crime and really good schools, and that's why we're here. But when the kids leave home, I absolutely do plan on moving back west. I've always felt San Diego had the best climate in the US. When considering overseas locations, I think Majorca, Spain has my favorite weather. The worst is Djibouti...yikes!
because we hate the politics we sometimes discuss the other places we might live. then we have a beverage on the deck and decide we are OK here in San Diego. Image Unavailable, Please Login
