Just introducing myself. I am a director in Los Angeles, and have been building cars, trucks and motorcycles over the last two plus decades. I recently hopped into the Porsche world and resurrected my 1987 911 that was destined to the parts bin. It's been an amazing journey, and now I am looking to dabble into the world of Ferrari. Specifically a 348ts. I love the style and more importantly the simplicity of older cars and it ticks so many boxes. Image Unavailable, Please Login I'm usually at Newcombs on Friday mornings up in Angeles Crest and I've had a lot of friends hop on board and join the automotive scene. Hope to meet some of you in person as I continue learning about these cars before making the inevitable leap. -Ian
Nice! Welcome. I love my air-cooled 911s. I'm sure you will get many opinions on the 348... I can say that the Ferrari V-8 cars are a lot of fun. If you want a convertible, you might also look at a 3.2 Mondial-- the 3.2 is a great motor.
Love the late 3.2 911s. My current fun car is a ‘93 964, which may be a forever car for me, but I’ve had a 356 and 993, also Ferrari 308 and 328. You’re spot on about the older, simpler cars being the most enjoyable. I would go for a 328 as the most robust and satisfying classic Ferrari, but you should drive one before buying. Thanks! I'm hoping as I dive deeper I'll get the chance to drive one... I've seen a few at the Newcomb's car meet I go to most Fridays.... I'll make it a point to get to know some of the owners. Love the 964, such an icon in the line up!
I had a 348 for ten years and a 993 for seven of the 348’s ten. T’was a great pairing. 348s can hurt your feelings if you let them, but they are FUN cars. Still the best steering I’ve encountered. Go as late as you can to avoid yet undiscovered gearbox issues and a host of other smaller concerns. The motor is robust as hell and wants you to keep it “on the boil”. Best of luck with your search and welcome!
also here's a little video of the 12month revival of my 87 roller if anyone wants to check it out. looking forward to finding a 348ts that I can wrench on just as much as keep in my stable as long as I can drive it.
