Mov'It Ceramic Brakes Arrived Today

The front 396 mm, six piston, billet caliper, Mov'It ceramic brakes for my 575M arrived today from Germany. Will take a bunch of photos of the installation when they are mounted. Rears are on order but will take a while to get here (pay). 360 mm, four piston, billet caliper as well. Calipers are painted Giallo Modena.

Mov'It brakes are being tested on the Renault F1 cars with good results. For anyone interested, here is their web-site: http://www.movitbrakes.com/en/

Philip- You got that right. Good news for you or someone else is there will be a full set of Rosso Corsa FHP brakes plus an extra set of factory rotors and pads for sale soon.

Here are some photos. One glitch, the calipers were supposed to be plain with no logo. Will have to fix that because they will have Ferrari decals on them before mounting. That is a 12" green ruler in the photos. The rotors are 396 x 36 mm (15.6" x 1.4"). The calipers are billet (monoblock). Small parts omitted.

Turns out the calipers are two piece.

Wade- Completely different type of brake. The rotors are carbon silicon carbide all the way through and are way tougher than CCM brakes. They have been testing the rotor material on the F1 Renaults and they were lasting several races. Accelerated testing shows wear way in excess of 100,000 miles. The rotors you see are their third generation. The pads are huge, about 25-35% larger than CCM, depending on application.

Just to let you guys know, it did not take them this long to deliver. It took me that long to pay for them. Will be a long delay on the rears, too.

Incidentally, they are billet. The whole caliper is made out of one billet of aluminum and then cut in two with a water saw to do the internal work for the pistions, lines, etc.

Jerry- They will fit the 19" modulars and the 19" Novitecs I have on my car. The original CCMs fitted to the HGTCs had 398 mm rotors. They have ceramic applications for the 18" wheels as well and also have steel rotor applications for less money that are lighter and have way bigger pads than the OEM Brembos and available applications with 4 or 6 piston calipers. Just depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. Prices are competitive for all their applications and quality is really outstanding.

No track use for me. These brakes will last the life of the car and are actually better than the CCMs on the HGTC.

Larry- Probably a bit better than the Brembo CCMs and you do not need all that silly software, either. These rotors are not going to wear out while I am alive.

Would be interesting to see how they would work on the 430 Challenge cars. Most of them have switched back to steel rotors because they cannot afford to replace the rotors and pads on the CCM brakes. Mov'it have actually had one set of rotors last 500,000 kms (or was it miles?) in accelerated testing.

Barry- Those are my calipers in the photo. Taken on a table on my patio. They were supposed to be blank, but came silk-screened so I will have to take off the finish on that side of the calipers, repaint, put on my decals, and clear coat. Mov'It will probably send me the matching paint and clear-coat. Details still being worked.

Philip- No, that combination is what Mark is running right now and they work fine. On one of these big V12s, the rear brakes need to: 1) not lock up, 2) keep the rear end behind the front end, 3) provide a bit of braking power when stopping, and 4) provide braking force so the ASR can use them under hard acceleration to prevent wheel spin.

My rear Mov'It ceramic brakes will be four piston with 360 mm rotors.

Just to give you an idea of the distribution of braking force on a stock 575M Maranello, here are the specs:

F 330 x 32 mm rotors, Brembo 4 piston calipers, diameters 38/46 mm, piston area 55.92 sq cm
R 310 x 28 mm rotors, Brembo 4 piston calipers, diameters 30/34 mm, piston area 32.30 sq cm

Pad contact area is 121.4 sq cms F and 85.4 sq cms R.

Take all that into account and most of the braking force is on the front.
