Awesome buddy, glad to hear it. I'm pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say we will do whatever we can to help you/make your stay here enjoyable/make it all a good experience. Best Regards my friend
What about all those rusty farm implement things on the S 24th St overpass (the 24th in CB, of course)? OH MY. And yes, there are also others (sort of vertical "light gates") when you come over 480 and on to BWY, but who wants to be on W BWY? I only use it out of necessity. I worked at at all 3 a decade ago...yes Ameristar is the "best" but everything is relative. BTW, does anyone know someone looking for a pretty victorian house in CB? Nice area, just appraised (Monday) at 175k, looking for....less than that. PM me.
Just got a counter "offer to stay" from my current empl as I gave them notice yesterday, and it's tempting! All I can offer in return for a 355 ride is maybe a coffee and a ride in a cruddy Audi, lol. Though maybe I can whip up a Cayman S and an Elise and we'll take a run.
I'm a sucker for a cup of coffee and a muffin. Btw, BOTH of my SGAs called last night at 11pm from their vacation in Hawaii. They have agreed to let me go directly to Nebraska. . It is IN WRITING, and I will be moving there the week before February 17. IT'S FNALLY COMPLETE!!!!
The other nice thing about Omaha is it is in relative driving distance to St. Louis, Minneapolis, Denver, Chicago, Tulsa/Oklahoma City all at or within 500 miles. Indianapolis, Elkhart Lake, a teeny bit longer. I used to put 40K a year on my car, now: not so much, barely 1/3rd of that.
The best thing about Omaha is that it is NOT Des Moines !!! Nebraska is the only state in the country that Iowa is allowed to make fun of But, Omaha really shines apart from the rest of the state in every way ---- except for having the same crappy weather . Also, when you want to get away for a while, flights out of Omaha are remarkably cheap compared to other nearby cities in the MidWest. I often drive the 100 miles to Omaha, and park in long-term, to fly from there instead of Des Moines --- most fares are always about 50% less! Plus, you have a much wider / better choice of airlines.
I sell insurance. BY the way...I have convinced them to let me leave early. My OFFICIAL release date is February 12. However, we have agreed that I will be moving to Omaha February 1st. Yay! I'll be in Omaha Jan 4th to look at the 4 houses I have found online (All about $1600/month)--2 are brand-new construction.
I know, I was asking Taurean Bull what he did. Most folks in CB that I know work in I.T. or the casinos.. Iowa Western Community College in CB has one of the best I.T. programs in the entire midwest - counting ALL schools, even the 4 year schools.
I'm a financial analyst (business models, IRR, NPV, etc, not personal investments). IWCC has really come a LONG way.
So I was searching around some of these nebraska threads as I'm going to be getting my first F-Car and was wondering if anyone had/has used any of the places mentioned in the various threads for their general maintenance. Does using an indie shop for the regular maintenance/oil changes void warranty if something does end up going wrong?
I don't even own gloves!! LoL But I DID buy a wool scarf the day after Christmas! I've never owned one. You gonna be available Wednesay evening to meet up? In staying at the Crown Plaza, I think.
The CP at Old Mill? http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/1/en/hotel/omanw?&externalHotelDetailHit=true Mostly sunny and 32 ish every day you'll be here. Not bad considering right now it's 18 and kinda sorta sleeting. I'll shoot you a PM with my contact info. Will be good to have you here, buddy! Other guys, interested in an impromptu coffee or something? Whisky? JP?
Crowne Plaza? LOL, let me tell you, I used to ravage that place when they built it in 1972, and so you know, it is just a revamped Holiday Inn. Crowne bought it a few years ago, it is formerly known as the 'Old Mill Holiday Inn'. I work basically 2 miles NW of it, I can go about anywhere. You guys figure out where and when and let me know, I work 2pm to 10pm M-F. Cheesecake Factory, Granite City, Fernando's, Five Guys, Taco Bell, Scooter's, I don't care. PS - that Crowne Plaza is not the easiest place in the world to get to for a first-timer, be sure you mapquest it, or hope your GPS works good. My suggestion would be to exit I-680 on Maple Street west, go Left (South) at the first lights (108th street), and proceed south two miles, and it will be directly in front of you when 108th starts to curve into the valley. Getting to it from the Expressway/Dodge Road is kind of a PITA until you are familiar with it.
If anyone wants to meet up I am thinking that Wednesday between 1-5pm would be best. I am looking at houses and have appointments set all morning and then form about 5-8pm. If that doesn't work then we can get together Wednesday evening. As of right now, I just landed in San Francisco to party for the weekend.
1pm to 8pm (10pm actually) is when I am working or on the way to work, I'll just meet you sometime after you move here, not a big deal.
Completely agree with Whisky's suggestion on route to get to the hotel. PM'd you guys, and we'll see how she goes! Maybe a beer at Granite? Have fun in SF.
Yay!!! Found a beautiful brand-new home to lease!!!! Signed the paperwork today! Having a blast out here in Omaha so far!
Omaha is a boring city for a new person. But once you're here a while and you learn to appreciate it, it's really a gem in the midwest.
Had lunch with Taurean Bull and met Whiskey last night. Thanks for the hospitality, guys. I actually think I'm gonna love living out here! See you guys next month!
