Gents, headed to England and wanted to know if there are any places that I must visit?

I'm looking for motorsports slanted bookstores, trinket shops, collectibles, etc. Or maybe a vintage car dealership?

I've seen the Classic Car Club in London which was great.

I'll be in Sutton Coldfield (B'ham) and in Windsor (London) with relatives...so something relatively close to these two areas would be nice. I'll be relying on a tight time schedule and borrowed transport.

    Thank you!

Stick your nose in at Maranello Egham (Dealer) http://www.sytner.co.uk/ferrari/maranello-egham/home.aspx - if you prebook their Classic Parts department which is the main official source worldwide will give you a tour https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/PagesExternal/Lang/en/OurHistory.aspx - St Martins Models if you go up to town http://www.stmartinsmodels.co.uk/ and the bookshop nearby http://www.motorbooks.co.uk/ - plus there's a Ferraristore round the corner on Regent ST

Nearer Birmingham Coventry has an excellent transport museum as does Donington - oh and there's Gaydon

Try an 'advanced search' in the 'united kingdom' section on 'london visit' for more ideas from the previous similar queries

    My 02c;

    - Windsor -> London is best done on the train which goes into (IIRC) Charing Cross - This puts you in walking distance of "Motorbooks" just off the Charing X Road. Alternatively, there's the legendary "Foyles bookstore" that's the biggest in the UK and has employees that know stuff!......

    - If you haven't done it, and you're any kind of tech geek; The Science Museum is worth at least a day..... Less and you'll pissed at yourself.

    - Dunno timing, but Windsor to Brands isn't a bad drive - If there's anything happening while you're there it remains a great circuit.

    Enjoy,
    Cheers,
    Ian

The two things I liked most in the UK were Donnington and Bealieu museums. Both are a ways from London, but if you only get to England once, I would try to get to them. Mercedes Benz World and Brooklands are cool, too, about 30 minutes away. But if no events, not much to see.

Donnington, about 2.5 hours by car, Beaulieu about 2 hours.

In London - Motor Books, St. Martins models and a few Model Zone stores. Transportation museum has lots of buses and Tube history.

Must see - near Birmingham, go to Bob's Model Shop. Run by my friend Julia. I have been buying from there for 15 years. Ask to see her old pictures from British GPs. http://www.minichamps.co.uk/minichamps_index.htm

Gents, thank you for the great suggestions...will be mapping and planning now. Bob's Models may be an easy one as it is near my bro in law's office.

Donington may be tough this time around but will save it for a future trip out.

BTW-I've been to the Egham dealership a few years ago...very nice.

    Thanks!

Not cars, but if you are in Birmingham, Stratford upon Avon is a very nice place. 20 minutes from Bob's Models. Neat to see Shakespeare and Ann Hathaway's homes.

As you plan, Model Zone seems to be a good shop in a lot of towns. Cambridge, Stratford, bunch in London, etc..

Depending when you're here there is the Regent Street Motor Show (London) on Nov 5 with 100 veteran cars, 50 Minis and 50 E types. (I'll be there with my E). London to Brighton Veteran car run on Nov 6. Classic Motor Show at NEC, Birmingham on Nov 11-13.

Probably the best motorsport bookshop is Chaters. About 30 minutes southwest of Windsor.

Coys showroom in Richmond, West London.

Some lovely vintage cars on display and as I live there I pop in often. Right now they have Ferrari wise 250 TdF & S1 250 Cabriolet plus some Astons, Bizzarinni etc....

If you are in West London Richmond is end of the District line tube wise....oh and the pubs down by the river are equally nice.

    Darren.
