For lunch - I always stop in to Schwartz's Deli for Montreal Smoked Meat. http://www.schwartzsdeli.com/

Be prepared though, there's always a long wait & line to get into the 'restaurant' side, it's very small. You can go into the takeout section, shorter & faster line and there are benches with stools along the back.

For something more formal, there are a lot of great restaurants in Montreal - but I suggest heading towards old Montreal and finding something there.

Gents, a little piece of advice. It's difficult to find a bad restaurant in Montreal.
The choices are infinite, and can satisfy and pallet and wallet.
May I suggest that you check with the concierge (or front desk) of your hotel when you check in.
I am sure that they have pools of contacts and can set you up nicely.
IMO, places like Moishes, Joe Beef, Queue du Cheval and the likes, are overrated and overpriced.
There are many smaller places off the beaten path that are far less expensive and offer better fare.

Any suggestions for an upscale place in old port for Italian?
My usual Saturday night place during race weekend was Bounanotte on St. Laurent street but I closed 2 months ago

The ratings online seem to be favorable. The owner is the son of one of my clients, who also has been in the restaurant business for ages. I imagine he knows his trade. Parking might be an issue in that area.

It's hard to find a bad restaurant in Montreal....although not impossible. The problem is that many of them over-book during GP week and are not able to handle the volume.

It's too bad Beufteque (spelling?) has closed, that was our go to when in Montreal. You would have a hard time finding a bad restaurant anywhere in Montreal.
